UNIVERSAL Technologies is seeking a Java/SQL Developer with Data Engineering expertise for a remote role. Candidates located in the EST time zone are preferred. An active LinkedIn account is required.
Position: The MYCITY Data Engineer will design, develop, and maintain data-driven applications and systems to support the City’s data infrastructure and analytics initiatives. The role involves creating scalable data pipeline architecture, developing APIs, and building tools to manage and analyze large datasets. The ideal candidate will have expertise in both front-end and back-end technologies, along with a strong understanding of data engineering principles.

SCOPE OF SERVICES:
As a MYCITY Data Engineer, your responsibilities include:
Creating optimal data pipeline architecture that is coherent and scalable, based on best practices for integrating data into a consolidated repository.
Designing, developing, and testing technical solutions for data and analytics tools, services, and products.
Building infrastructure for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from various sources using SQL, cloud, and big data technologies.
Developing APIs for data access and preparing data for downstream consumption in appropriate target data stores.
Collaborating with teams to analyze customer engagement, operational efficiency, and other business performance metrics.
Performing technical design, development, and component testing of data-driven systems.
MANDATORY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Note: Candidates who do not have the mandatory skills will not be considered.
8+ years of experience in Java application development and implementation of large technology projects.
5+ years of experience in writing SQL.
Proven experience as a Full Stack Developer with expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Python, JavaScript, and related frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Node.js, Vue).
Experience in front-end and back-end application development.
Familiarity with RDBMS (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
Strong understanding of scalable application design principles.
Knowledge of service-oriented architecture and RESTful web services.
Experience with JSON, XML, XSD, WSDL, JDBC, MQ, SOAP concepts.
Experience with agile development processes and version control tools (Git, GitHub, Subversion).
Strong understanding of data engineering concepts and experience with SQL, NoSQL databases, and data processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark).
Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
Experience developing cloud-ready applications and working on full-cycle data pipeline development.
DESIRABLE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Experience in ETL development using Informatica PowerCenter, IBM DataStage, or B2B Data Transformation tools.
Familiarity with Oracle 12g, AWS RDS/MySQL, and database appliances.
Knowledge of metadata-driven enterprise reporting platforms.
Experience working on complex data integration projects.
Knowledge of IBM Master Data Management (MDM) implementation.
