ABOUT THE POSITION VHB's Maine team is seeking an experienced Project Manager to support our land development projects. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join a growing team of civil engineers in southern Maine managing the design of ski resort improvements, national park projects, local urban re-development projects, transit-oriented development, and federal, state, and local (City/Town) projects throughout Maine. VHB offers a unique combination industry-leading Land Development experience across our footprint combined with a focused and driven team of local professionals who are growing the delivery of these services across the state. Our Maine Land Development team is looking for a Project Manager that is passionate about contributing to and leading the delivery of these fun and unique projects. Responsibilities Manages, plans, develops, organizes, and implements engineering projects. Explores subject area, defines scope, selects areas for investigation, and develops novel concepts.
Prepares proposals and/or contracts. Participates in project decisions regarding technical approach, costs, and scheduling. Directs and mentors team members in the development of proposals, plans, specifications, drawings, instructions, cost estimates, reports, final bid packages, and related documents. Performs project reviews and quality control audits to measure the quality level of the project deliverables to industry standard specifications and zoning/regulatory requirements. Investigates any quality problems that lead to project changes and modifies project plans as needed. Establishes and monitors budgets to assess profitability. Monitors project progress for technical accuracy and adherence to schedule. Researches problem areas of significant scope and complexity. Applies extensive knowledge to develop solutions. Is accountable for the resolution of challenging technical problems that substantially affect major projects. Acts as technical liaison to individuals within and outside VHB with responsibility to act independently regarding technical matters pertaining to civil engineering projects. Consults with construction personnel concerning design constructability. Represents VHB at meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish needs and discuss design/permitting issues. Responsible for client relationships, visibility, and business development. May supervise, plan, schedule, and coordinate the work of junior employees. Provides direction and guidance to technical team members and reviews their work for accuracy. Participates in professional and personal development aligned with career goals. Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and VHB policies and procedures. Skills and Abilities Extensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in civil engineering. In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations governing site design. Robust technical and critical thinking skills. Highly skilled in industry standard engineering design and analysis systems (e.g., CAD, GIS, stormwater hydrology and hydraulics, traffic simulation) Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite. Robust skills in project and client relationship management and collaborative problem solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates. Excellent time management skills. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong report writing skills. Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with coworkers. Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented. Qualifications 11-15 years of professional land development engineering experience, including management of projects and staff BS in Civil Engineering or related degree (a Masters degree may be substituted for 1 years of experience) PE licensure required Proficient in site layout, grading, utility design, and stormwater management We are VHB!
