The AFRL Integrated Capabilities Directorate (RS), Architecture Design Integration and Evaluation Division (RSA), Architecture Program Integration Branch (AFRL/RSAI) is seeking to fill two non-supervisory mid or senior general engineering (0801) positions at the DR-02/03 grade level at Nellis AFB, NV. Vacancies to be filled will provide technical S&E expertise and collaborate with a team of operators experienced in combat operations, battle management, electronic warfare, cyber, intelligence, and acquisition program management in support to the Department of the Air Force (DAF) Command, Control, Communications, and Battle Management (C3BM).

This small team of technical and operational experts is tasked with rapid prototyping and experimentation to smooth technology transition from concept to acquisitions to operations! The ORT focuses on quickly filling key knowledge gaps identified by the Architecture and Systems Engineering (ASE) Division or the C3BM acquisition divisions. The team has demonstrated success where simulation is impractical or unvalidated by fielding new tech directly to major exercises; especially when the Concept of Operations and Employment for emerging technologies are undefined.
Position duties include but are not limited to:
- Leads multidisciplinary teams integrating prototype systems into CONUS and OCONUS large force exercises and evaluating the technology for operational utility
- Analyzes data across various communication networks to assess and advise on experimentation plans and technology and concepts meeting future DAF needs
- Provide/Develop after action reports after experimentation events
- Develops and executes ORT objectives such as fielding and testing new technology at large-force exercises including leading the team, planning, execution, and reporting findings/results after experimentation events
- Regularly communicates with senior leaders, military, and contractor team members
- Collaborates, interacts, coordinates, and/or directly consults with DoD, DAF, other government agencies, academic, and industry partners

Required Qualifications
- United States Citizenship
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance with SCI access in the applicable career field
- Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience (SES) at the DR-01 or GS-11 equivalent to qualify. Examples of specialized experience include experience working in cross-organizational teams or programs, building diverse coalitions in support of program objectives, and/or supervising or leading multi-functional teams.
- This is a Professional Engineering Position requiring a bachelor's degree in engineering with at least one program that is ABET-accredited IAW Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) 0800 Individual Occupational Requirements found at https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0800/files/all-professional-engineering-positions-0800.pdf
- The incumbent may be subject to random drug testing
- PCS may or may not be paid
- Positions in the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) require Level/Tier 2 (Practitioner) Non-Critical Certification in Engineering and Technical Management. APDP experience requirement is 4 years in the applicable career field; and the selectee will have 60-months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained. - Position is eligible for telework but the employee must live within the commuting area of Nellis AFB
Desired Qualifications
- An advanced academic degree in a science or engineering (S&E) discipline from an accredited institution
- To be successful in this position, candidates will need experience with modern battle management concepts; prior experience as Air Battle Manager would be highly desired
- Previous experience in DAF Major Command Staff, C2 (Command & Control) operations, or exercise planning
- Candidates should understand agile combat employment communications, aerial data links, radar data feeds, command and control systems, and contingency response groups
- Experience as network engineers, network system engineers, program or project management as well as E3 Sentry AWACS (Airborn warning and control system)
- Past positions with exposure to PACAF or INDOPACOM theater or past collaboration with the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) should also be highlighted in a candidate’s experience, if applicable
