Job Description
Under general supervision of Director of Dental Services, the CDA supervisor will be responsible for all supervisory and operational functions of Dental Clinic Assistants (DCA’s) and Certified Dental Clinic Assistants (CDA’s).
This position performs clinical procedures required by Certified Dental Clinic Assistant(s) including, but not limited to, records management and clinical support functions based on site management requests, dental and radiography procedures, preparation and maintenance of dental equipment and supplies in accordance with established PCHC protocols and policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- The CDA supervisor will supervise: 1) the daily duties of the DCA and CDA ensuring timely performance and accuracy and 2) monitor the DCA and CDA workload and schedules breaks and lunches, insuring there is appropriate coverage at all times.
- The position will oversee the orientation/training of new DCA and CDA and update existing employees on new P&Ps, processes and programs.
- Overall supervisory responsibility for CDA’s & DCA’s (clinical), including conducting performance reviews. Functional supervisory responsibility for DCA’s and other staff when assigned to clinical area.
- Sets realistic, clearly defined staff performance expectations and accountability. Explains performance standards, supervises compliance, and provides guidance and role modeling related to employee behaviors. Counsels and takes appropriate corrective action and/or disciplinary action for failure to meet standards.
- The CDA supervisor will rotate amongst Dental departments and float to other Health Centers as needed.
MANAGERIAL PERFORMANCE
- Coordinates hiring of new employees and/or the transferring of current employees. Screens, interviews and selects qualified staff consistent with defined qualifications, in a timely manner. Advises the Director the need and appropriate hiring of contingent workforce i.e., temporary, and contract staff.
- Ensures that all employees (regular staff, temporary, and contractors)
- Attend organization-wide orientation within 60 days of hire.
- Are oriented to the department through a written departmental orientation.
- Are oriented to the job, through a documented written job specific orientation, insuring that competencies are successfully completed.
- Ensures that Probationary Reviews are conducted for each new hire, rehire, transferred, promoted, dual job holder, contractor individual within 90 days of occurrence.
- Annually prepares and conducts the performance evaluation interview.
- Works cooperatively with others actively contributing to the team. Actively collaborates with other departments and disciplines to ensure the effective operations at the Dental Clinic.
Education/Experience Required
- An Associates Degree in Management, Business, Health Care Administration or related field, preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years dental clinic or dental community health experience, plus a minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience required.
- Completion of a 12 or 18 month dental assisting program and continued certification by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB).
- Maintain CPR current.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint and Access database helpful.
- Ability to gain proficiency in Intergy Practice Management Software and Dentrix and provide training.
