The Civil Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for heavy highway and infrastructure projects, including roadways, bridges, and transportation-related work. The ideal candidate will have experience in the civil construction industry, a strong understanding of heavy highway work, and a keen eye for detail. Client Details We are a leading general contractor in North New Jersey specializing in heavy highway construction projects, including roadways, bridges, and infrastructure. With a proven track record of delivering high-quality, large-scale public and private projects, we are seeking an experienced Civil Estimator with a background in heavy highway construction to join our team. Description Key Responsibilities: Develop accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for heavy highway projects, including roads, bridges, culverts, drainage systems, and other infrastructure. Analyze project drawings, specifications, and other documents to prepare detailed cost breakdowns, including labor, materials, and equipment. Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring competitive and accurate pricing. Review and interpret contract documents, project plans, and scopes of work to identify potential cost impacts or changes in project scope. Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure estimates align with project requirements and objectives. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local market conditions, labor rates, and material costs to ensure competitive and accurate estimates. Prepare and submit bid proposals for public and private sector projects, ensuring compliance with all relevant guidelines, permits, and regulations. Track and manage changes in project scope or design that could impact costs or timelines. Assist in developing project schedules and budgets during the preconstruction phase. Ensure all estimates consider safety, quality, and regulatory compliance factors. Participate in project meetings and offer expertise regarding cost analysis and feasibility. Profile Qualifications: Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Civil Estimator with a focus on heavy highway and infrastructure projects (roads, bridges, utilities, etc.). Strong understanding of the unique aspects of heavy highway construction, including roadwork, drainage, bridges, and paving. Familiarity with industry-standard estimating software (e.g., HCSS, ProEst, or similar programs). Experience with local, state, and federal bid processes and regulations related to heavy highway work. Ability to read and interpret civil engineering drawings, specifications, and contracts. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with an eye for detail. Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams. Knowledge of construction safety standards and regulations. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred, but not required. OSHA 30-hour certification is a plus.
