MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

The

Licensed

Mental Health Clinician

is responsible for providing individual and group counseling services on a wide range of clinical and community issues for individuals in residential treatment to address a substance use disorder. Assists residents and their families in accessing community resources and services related to substance abuse, legal, mental health, medical and vocational/educational needs. Functions in a collaborative role within the clinical team and provides guidance and direction to the Counselors.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide individual assessment and counseling to address outstanding family, medical, psychiatric, and housing concerns. Conduct evidence-based group counseling services related to a wide range of clinical and community issues. Maintain up-to-date resident charts including assessments, treatment plans, case notes and documentation of collateral contacts. Provide crisis intervention services. Assist in the development and implementation of resident discharge plans. Provide other therapeutic services through active participation, observation and evaluation of resident's engagement in the resident hierarchy, job functions, and social and recreational activities. Establish community and agency affiliations which address resident needs and strengthen the delivery of services. Functions as liaison and provide education and direct services to family members, as appropriate, in regards to resident's substance abuse and related behavioral issues. When necessary due to staff absences or vacancies, maintains a caseload. When necessary, conduct resident screening for contraband and collection of samples for urine toxicology testing Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings and case conferences. When necessary, facilitate case conferences and conduct internal chart audits. Attend all required in-service training seminars. Participate in quality improvement activities. Function as "Manager" on Duty in the absence of an on-site manager. Other relevant duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION/TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy with one (1) year experience working in a social services setting providing group counseling, family therapy and case management with chemically dependent clients required; NYS Licensure as a Social Worker, Mental Health Counselor or Marriage and Family Therapist required.

Candidates lacking this credential must be able to obtain this minimum standard during the six (6) month introductory employment probation period.

Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Must be able to work a flexible schedule. Proficiency with computer operation (Microsoft Word, Excel, Electronic Health Records, and Outlook programs). Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred but not required.
