Sr. Constructability Engineer in Data Center Engineering - Civil, Structural, Architectural Solutions (DCE-CSAS) team has the ability to understand the customer demand as well as the technology & business opportunities that exist in order to lead the organization forward; providing construction cost, schedule, and constructability guidance. You understand key problems, and propose and analyze multiple solutions to produce the most efficient, cost effective, resilient and scalable achievable data center with best constructability, not only for Civil, Structural, Architectural disciplines but also for Mechanical, Electrical, Control, and whole Data Center Engineering disciplines.
Sr. Constructability Engineer in DCE-CSAS provides the global vision, rationale and recommendations to leadership teams for next-generation data center constructability standards in data center design and remediation, while ensuring current systems meet performance, construction schedule and operational standards.
As a Sr. Constructability Engineer in DCE-CSAS, you are a leader and visionary in your field, working within and leading the work of cross-functional teams that include: technical program management, product management, architect, structural, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering, supply chain management, construction, operations, safety and security, and legal. You will participate in external forums/consortiums to understand current trends and developments within the industry. You will be responsible for leading the global constructability strategy, constructability of new data center template and product innovation/development, and remediations of existing sites. This role will communicate the technical decisions we make to Senior Management and will drive continuous improvements with our constructability.

• You understand the key aspects of legacy and modern data center construction systems. Using this experience, schedule improvement areas in existing and next-generation data centers .
• You are responsible for and oversee the creation of data center construction schedules based on design improvements and initiatives..
• You conceive, initiate and lead projects with widespread impact on infrastructure construction, innovation and implementation.
• You are responsible for, conduct, and provide oversight for the review of the construction schedules and how construction activities are sequenced. Will identify critical path activities and help innovate ways to shorten timeline.
• You conduct design reviews of civil, structural, architectural, electrical and mechanical designs associated with the construction of new data centers or optimization/retrofit of existing data centers.
• You review, schedules and milestones, labor, , and perform subcontractor evaluations.
• You decompose complex scheduling/sequencing problems or new construction technologies or topologies to distill underlying risks and benefits, and identify straightforward and actionable solutions to reduce risk.
• You actively facilitate the escalation of low-level project issues to senior engineering and business leadership.
A day in the life
Amazon has a global presence; therefore 20% to 40% travel will be necessary. International support will be part of the job, and some international travel will be necessary with short notice. Support could consist of visiting data centers, working on international teams and could require developing schematic and design document packages with best constructability for both global future and existing sites. An understanding of international construction practices is preferable.

Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or 8+ years of relevant experience.
• 5+ years of experience in data center delivery (design, commissioning and construction) or mission critical facilities or equivalent.
• Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
• Experience developing a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) based on the scope of work and construction packages of a large scale industrial project.
• 5+ years’ experience using project scheduling software such as Primavera P6 and MS Project.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• 7+ years of relevant new and remediation design, construction, cost, scheduling, operation, and maintenance experience with mission critical facilities, especially data centers, or complex technical infrastructure projects.
• Certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE), Architect License, LEED, and/or Certified Construction Manager (CCM).
• Experience in developing full 5D/BIM and project strategy for design and construction management.
• Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA or equivalent local standards.
• Strong secondary understanding of uninterruptible power supplies, diesel generators, electrical switchgear, power distribution, electrical control systems, automatic/static transfer switches, chillers, cooling towers, direct and indirect evaporative cooling, variable speed drives, mechanical control systems, fan systems, acoustics, and fire detection/suppression.
• Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities, and carrying these into deployment.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
