Description
Join our team at Ground Support Group/Active Solar Development, a leading player in the Solar and Renewable Energy industry. We specialize in community solar construction projects that drive sustainability and clean energy solutions.
We are seeking an experienced Civil Operator to operate excavators and other heavy equipment on solar construction sites throughout NYS, NJ, PA, MD and DE. The role requires significant travel to various project locations, and you'll play a key role in the development of solar fields. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil construction, specifically in solar or renewable energy projects, and will be comfortable working in outdoor environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate heavy machinery such as excavators, backhoes, and other construction equipment.
- Perform earthmoving and grading operations, including trenching, excavation, and site preparation for solar installations.
- Adhere to project timelines while maintaining quality and safety standards on site.
- Conduct routine maintenance checks on equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Collaborate with the construction team and site supervisors to ensure the successful completion of project milestones.
- Travel to various project locations as required, often on short notice, to support multiple solar construction sites.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and other regulatory requirements during site operations.
- Assist in on-site troubleshooting and problem-solving as needed.
- Proven experience operating excavators and heavy equipment in a civil construction environment, preferably in solar or renewable energy projects.
- Snow removal experience helpful (plow).
- Ability to interpret and follow civil engineering and site plans.
- Experience with excavation and grading for utility-scale solar projects is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of safety protocols and regulations, including OSHA Construction 10 compliance.
- Operator school and/or specific operator certifications helpful.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively for projects across multiple locations.
- CDL helpful.
- Supervisory or team leadership is a plus.
- Proficient with smart phones, computers, email and basic computer operations. Must have a "smart phone" and be comfortable using for business communications.
- Physical ability to work in varying weather conditions and environments.
- Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
- Open to performing other scopes of work or non- operator work is required, such as supporting fencing, physical civil requirements, racking etc.
- Positive attitude and team mind set is a must.
- Ability to travel overnight every week, Monday-Friday, primarily within NYS, NJ, PA, DE and MD.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills (English)
- Excellent knowledge of safe operating procedure and a leader in jobsite safety practices
- Primary residence within NYS is required and close proximity to Utica, Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo or Albany is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits:
Hourly rate Most projects are prevailing wage. Exceptional fringe benefits package offered. Base rate range for non prevailing wage projects is $30.00-$40.00/hour, based on experience. Per Diem when travel is required.
