Position: Business Analyst (BA) with Technical Background
Location: Richmond, VA Hybrid - 2 days per week
Duration: 12 Months Contract

About the Role:
The Business Analyst (BA) with a technical background will play a crucial role in supporting software development IT projects, utilizing both Agile and Waterfall methodologies. This role involves collaborating with stakeholders, facilitating communication between business and technical teams, and ensuring the successful delivery of project objectives. The BA will manage requirements gathering, support user acceptance testing, and assist in refining processes to meet business needs effectively.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
Business Analysis: Conduct detailed analysis to identify problems, define business needs, elicit requirements, and manage stakeholders to meet project objectives. Support the execution phase by facilitating the implementation of the product, service, or result.
Stakeholder Liaison: Act as the key link between the Product Owner/Business Owner and the technical IT team, ensuring that business requirements are clearly understood and met.
Scope & Risk Management: Define project scope and perform risk analysis to ensure successful project execution.
Collaboration & Knowledge Transfer: Facilitate collaboration and knowledge transfer between stakeholders and the development team to ensure alignment and understanding.
Tracking Metrics: Monitor key metrics such as user adoption and engagement to identify areas for process and product improvement.
User Acceptance Testing: Facilitate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and business validation discussions to ensure product meets business needs.
Continuous Prioritization: Help ensure continuous prioritization of business requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
Agile Methodology Expertise: As an Agile Business Analyst (Agile BA), apply Agile principles to assist stakeholders in understanding Agile benefits and support the development team in translating business requirements into Agile-friendly processes.
Analyze business domain initiatives to identify epics and features.
Assist the Product Owner in developing and managing the Product strategy.
Refine and manage the Product Catalog.
Break down user stories into Minimum Viable Product (MVP) components.
Help the development team understand the bigger picture of business needs.
Convert business requirements into business process flows and functional requirements.
Act as a Proxy Product Owner/Business Lead as needed.
Strong Communication: Effectively communicate with all stakeholders to ensure shared understanding of product vision and requirements.
Flexibility & Adaptability: Adapt to changing requirements and evolving business needs, using self-reflection and detailed analysis to contribute effectively to the team.
Tool & Technique Expertise: Utilize Agile tools and techniques to manage backlogs, facilitate collaboration, and generate sprint/release reports. A strong understanding of these tools is crucial for an Agile BA's success.
Facilitation Skills: Lead and facilitate meetings for requirement gathering, ensuring productive and goal-oriented discussions, whether in traditional or Agile ceremonies.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience with Scrum framework and Agile methodologies.5+ years of experience in Business Analysis, including creating and managing use cases.4+ years of experience with Business Process Flow documentation.3+ years of experience in Product Management and managing product strategy.5+ years of experience using Business Analysis tools and techniques to capture and document requirements.5+ years of experience working in both Waterfall and Agile methodologies.4+ years of experience in Facilitation skills (for meetings, requirements gathering, and Agile ceremonies).3+ years of experience in a technical environment or with technical knowledge to effectively collaborate with development teams.5+ years of experience with Strong Communication Skills, both written and verbal.
- Desired Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Agile tools and techniques to manage sprints and releases.
- Experience in converting business requirements into business process flows and functional specifications.
- Ability to act as a Proxy Product Owner or Business Lead as required.
