Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Equipment Engineerto contribute to the development and improvement of new automation equipmentand assembly lines for our Energy Cell manufacturing operations. Amanufacturing equipment engineer in the production engineering team will be apart of operating, sustaining, and improving some of the most automatedmanufacturing equipment in the world. The best candidate for the position has ahigh aptitude to learn new skillsets in the position. The expectation is thatengineers will start with strengths in a given field (3D/2D Drawing, Mechanical/Electrical,Robotics, PLC Programming, Vision Systems, Python, HMI scripting, etc.) andthen learn all other areas from those who work with them. This role requires capabilityacross the board to sustain all parts of the automated equipment.Responsibilities Collaborate with cross functional teams in thedevelopment of Process Flows, Control Plan, GR&R, Work Instructions, Processcapability, Rework Procedures, Calibration and Qualification of tools, QualityValidation, Risk Assessments (PFMEA) & New product introductionCollaborate with Original Equipment Manufacturers inthe commissioning and start of production of new automated manufacturing equipmentCollaborate with EHS in the identification, prevention,and mitigation of safety hazards, proposing and implementing engineeringsolutionsSustain 24 by 7 production operations to meet buildplan targets through responding to and resolving breakdowns quickly andefficiently to minimize downtimeProgram ladder logic and structured text on multiplePLC controller platforms (Omron, Siemens). Program and teachindustrial 6-axis robots (Kuka/Fanuc) Sequence complex, multi-station machineryfor material pick-and-place, dispense, fastening, vision systems, welding, andconveyance applicationsDiagnoses equipment failures, finds root cause andimprove Overall Equipment Effectiveness. Lead equipment upgradeswith a focus on serviceability, reliability and process capabilityParticipate and lead corrective and preventive action(CAPA) meetings and reportsBecome Expert Level Trainer on all machines in assignedarea and be responsible for the level of knowledge of Shifttechnicians. Provide hands-on support to maintenance team totroubleshoot and resolve downtime situationsTakes initiative to create, implement and improvePreventative and Predictive Maintenance documents and schedules, under thedirection of the Maintenance Planner. Sustain competitive MTTR & MTBF targetsfor area of ownershipParticipate in spare part analysis and inventorydevelopment, cost reduction, improvement working with Spares Department to RMAfaulty components and communicate needs to the vendor Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, IndustrialEngineering, Mechatronic, or equivalent experienceExperience with PLC programming, troubleshooting andconfiguration. Good overall computer skills with demonstratedability in either Omron or Siemens, programming languages, preferredExperience commissioning and improvingEquipment. Have a demonstrated track record of Overall EquipmentEffectiveness (OEE) improvement, Preventative and Predictive Maintenanceactivities, preferredRobotics maintenance, troubleshooting, optimization& teaching, preferred (FANUC/Kuka)3+ years in a highly automated, high volumemanufacturing facility, good understanding of Computerized MaintenanceManagement System (CMMS), Safety, Ergonomics, Change Point Management, SpareParts Management, is a plusStrong problem solving skills and an aptitude forlearning systems quickly. Able to utilize structured problem solvingtechniques such as DMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why (5W) or Eight Disciplines(8D). Able to resolve high level performance issues into addressableactions, preferredStrong ability to work and communicate effectively withteam and peers within a manufacturing and engineeringorganization. This includes excellent communication skills: writtenand verbalExperience on winding systems, industrial roll to rollor web handling or similar is a plusExperience on X-ray imaging, Vision systems, Laserprocess, Laser welding or similar is a plusOverall experience on power electronics, electricalmeasurements, testing and metrology systems, is a plus
