WHAT IS A YOUTH SPORTS COORDINATOR?

The Youth Sports Coordinator (YSC) is a full-time, entry-level position designed for individuals looking to build a career in youth development, blending sports, mentorship, and program administration. This 40-hour-per-week role offers the chance to lead and inspire young people through hands-on coaching, programming, and leadership development.

Schedule:

  • School Year: Monday-Friday, 10 AM - 6 PM
  • Summer Camp Season: Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM

As a YSC for Brooklyn and Queens, youll work across schools in Jamaica, Maspeth, Ridgewood, East New York, Bed-Stuy, Sunset Park, Clinton Hill, and Downtown Brooklyn, using public transportation to visit different sites. Youll lead recess and PE programs, mentor other coaches, and step in as a key team player to ensure programs run smoothly.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a head coach and role model during recess and after-school programs, teaching sports and creative play activities.
  • Manage after-school programming as an Assistant or Site Coordinator, overseeing program supervision, schedules, and student data.
  • Serve in camp leadership roles during the summer as a Division Leader or Assistant Director (Administrative, Programming, or Offsite).

This role is ideal for individuals with experience in youth development and coaching. Youll join a team of 6-8 Youth Sports Coordinators, many with 3-4+ years of experience in after-school and summer camp programs.

Contract Details:
  • Start Date: January 2025
  • Duration: 8 months (renewable based on performance)
  • Future Opportunities: A strong performance may lead to a 12-month contract starting September 2025.

YSCs are expected to commit fully to this role, which includes both school-year and summer programming.

Youth Sports Coordinator Leadership Tracks:

YSCs are expected to follow one of the two leadership tracks listed below:

  • Site Coordinator Track
  • YSCs on this track are expected to commit their working hours to recess/PE coaching, after school program leadership, and office hours to complete administrative tasks for their Site Coordinator roles. You will be placed at multiple sites for the different programs you support and you will use public transportation to move around locations
  • 2 days of office hours (10am - 2pm)
  • 3 days of recess coaching (AM hours between 10am and 2pm)
  • 5 days of after school coaching as an Assistant / Site Coordinator (PM hours between 2:30 and 6:00pm)
  • Head Coach Track
  • YSCs on this track are expected to commit their working hours to recess/PE coaching, after school sports coaching, enrichment classes (Art/Science), and specialized sports classes. YSCs on this track may have modified weekly schedules that require Saturday sports coaching. You will be placed at multiple sites for the different programs you support and you will use public transportation to move around locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx.
  • 1 day of office hours (10am - 2pm)
  • 3 days of recess coaching (AM hours between 10am and 2pm)
  • 5 days of after school coaching (PM hours between 2:30 and 6:00pm)
  • Saturday sports coaching (9am and 1pm; 8-9 week sessions)

Compensation & Benefits:

The compensation package includes a salary paid biweekly from January through August 2025,, access to benefits, and paid time off. The total compensation for this role would include: $25,000 - $27,000 as the salary for the 8-month period of January - August (annualized rate of $40,000), along with access to our full benefits package (valued at $11,000).

The Youth Sports Coordinator position is renewable for a 12-month contract starting September 1, 2025, with an annualized salary of $42,000.

  • $25,000 - $27,000 salary for January - August 2025
  • $1,400 to $1,600 bi-weekly salary
  • Salary determined by relevant work experience, education/degree level, demonstrated skills, certifications, etc.
  • Annual bonuses and annual performance-based salary raises
  • Comprehensive benefits package valued at $11,000 (including 15 days of paid time off, public holidays, 401K, commuter benefits, health insurance + HSA, and wellness program)

Key Qualifications:

Our ideal candidate would meet many of the following qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in the areas of K-12 Education, Sports Management, Physical Education, or a related field is strongly preferred
  • 2+ years of supervising staff within the youth development field; minimum 1 year required of staff management experience
  • Prior experience creating program schedules and highly engaging, active programming for youth (non-academic)
  • Be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships, and be able to solve problems in a variety of situations
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to relate to younger children, work with different age groups, and partner with school staff to support childrens physical and emotional needs
  • Attend and help lead mandatory Core Trainings and all-staff team buildings, before and during the camp season.
  • Be able to establish and maintain strong working relationships with fellow employees, participants, parents, and caregivers.
  • Communicate in a timely and professional fashion with parents, caregivers, kids and staff across organization-wide communication channels (Slack, Email, Text, Google Calendar, etc.) and be able to interpret and understand both written and oral instructions.
  • Be able to learn and effectively use multiple platforms for accessing and sharing information, including G Suite (doc, sheets, slides), League Apps (after school registration platform), Asana project management software, and other internal information management systems.
