Duties

This position is being announced concurrently under Excepted Service Examining Plan procedures. Please review vacancy announcement number IHS-24-AQ-12387957-ESEP/MP for eligibility requirements. Applicants must apply separately for each announcement in order to be considered.

This position is located at the Zuni Comprehensive Community Health Center, Division of Nursing Services, Department of Obstetrics, Zuni, New Mexico, This position reports to the Supervisory Nurse (OB/GYN). The purpose of this position is to independently plan and provide comprehensive nursing care for patients on the obstetrical unit by providing antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum nursing care. Provides nursing care to the newborn infant during recovery and post-recovery. Provides nursing care on the inpatient and outpatient units when census is low in the obstetrical unit. Work is on a rotational assignment of days, nights, weekend and holidays.

Provides comprehensive nursing care to the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients. Performs cervical checks for dilation, effacement, station, presenting part, position, and status of membranes.

Performs assessments, recognizes, identifies, and interprets serious situations.

Recognizes obstetrical complications and promptly react to urgent and emergency situations.

Implement and evaluates nursing care plans.

Administers critical medications as prescribed by the physician.

Provides nursing care to the neonate during recovery and post urgent/emergent situations.

Operates and monitor specialized equipment safely and correctly, i.e., fetal monitors, interprets fetal monitor strips, and neonatal monitoring devices, etc.

Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S) :

Education : A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Degree from Foreign Nursing School : Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Licensure : For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Experience : The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-09 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.

In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must have had one full year of professional nursing experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 grade level and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program.

Professional Nursing Experience : Independently provides professional nursing care to obstetrical patients. Provides nursing care to the antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum patients, administering critical medications, performing cervical checks for dilation, effacement, station, presenting part, position, status of membranes, operating fetal monitors, interpretation of fetal monitor strips and neonatal monitoring devices. Provides nursing care to the newborn infant during recovery and post-recovery.

Public Health Service (PHS) Licensure Policy : Each PHS Nurse must possess and maintain a current valid, active State licensure/registration as a professional nurse.
