Senior Director, Enterprise Insights COE

Recently reimagined within the Strategy function, the Enterprise Insights Center of Excellence seeks to instill and sustain changes that lead to more objective, consistent, and strategically advantageous decision-making through the usage of NM’s valuable data and information. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to be the Senior Director of the Enterprise Insights COE. This person will lead a talented team of analysts to build, deploy and support visualizations that deliver meaningful business outcomes, while committing to increasing the trustworthiness and reliability of the data and information available.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction to analytics teams to provide quantitative and qualitative data analysis and reporting of patterns, insights, and trends to decision-makers to drive business decisions and address business questions.
  • Execute an effective center of excellence, prioritizing backlog of work, aligning team, engaging with business and technical partners, and communicating effectively to focus on the most impactful outcomes.
  • Partner with senior leaders on strategic/tactical plans based on business data and market knowledge. Utilize analytics and metrics to improve processes and provide data-driven forecasts that impact the business (costs, risks, etc.).
  • Deliver the right data visualizations for key business functions and partners.
  • Maintain operational stability for existing and delivered visualizations.
  • Find efficiencies in how we operate. Selflessly identify the best practices existing throughout the organization and advocate for enterprise adoption.
  • Be a change agent on the convergence of key metrics and measurements. Work to leverage single, reliable datasets, sourced from strategic data platforms.
  • Drive partnerships with similar insights organizations, focusing on collaboration and reuse.
  • Champion automation and adoption of visualization standards across all functions.
  • Partner with leadership to improve the understanding of metrics and drivers.
  • Ensure hygiene, governance lifecycle and management of NM’s disparate reporting metrics sprawl.
  • Develop and grow the team through training, mentoring, and coaching while also supplementing staff as needed. Maintain a highly engaged, motivated, effective organization.
  • Foster an environment of continuous learning, curiosity, and ambiguity.
  • Be recognized as a go-to expert in this domain.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Science, MIS, business, or related field.
  • 10+ years relevant experience with a demonstrated record in research and data analysis, transforming data into useful, actionable information, and application development that support business decisions/outcomes. Includes increasingly responsible leadership responsibilities.
  • Proven management skills including negotiating, leadership, delegation, planning and organization.
  • Established ability to effectively build and develop teams, manage people, and improve work processes.
  • Demonstrated expertise to deliver results and recommendations in written, verbal and presentation form at an appropriate level for all levels of business audiences. Comfort and confidence in working with Sr Leadership.
  • Proven excellence in problem solving, research, quantitative analysis, and analytical working techniques.
  • Expert level ability to gather information systematically; consider a broad range of issues or factors; grasp complexities and perceive relationships among problems or issues; use accurate logic in analysis.
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead decision making process through idea sharing and consensus building.
  • Proven ability to build rapport, negotiate, gain the confidence, and work successfully with home office leaders in a variety of areas across the company.
  • Ability to generate innovative ideas and go beyond the status quo; recognize the need for new or modified approaches.
  • Ability and desire to lead projects independently from start to finish, working with internal and external teams to make decisions and maintain momentum.
  • Excellent time and project management skills, with the ability to manage detail work and communicate project status effectively to all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and a data-first mindset.

Compensation Range:

Pay Range - Start:

$133,140.00

Pay Range - End:

$247,260.00

Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Please note that the salary range listed in the posting is the standard pay structure. Positions in certain locations (such as California) may provide an increase on the standard pay structure based on the location.
