Sterile Processing Endoscopy Specialist

Under general supervision, directly responsible for all areas involving high level disinfection, maintaining current knowledge of standards including new and upcoming changes in the industry. Serves as the expert for high level processing for the central sterile department.
Education:
Associates Degree Required
Licensures/Certifications:
* Certificated Registered as a Central Sterile Processing Technician * Certified as an Endoscopic Reprocessor via IAHCSMM or CBSPD * Certified as a Healthcare Leader (CHL) * Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) preferred
Experience:
At least 4 years' experience as a prior sterile processing instrument technician
At least 2 years' experience in a leadership position
Skills:
* Strong organizational skills * Strong attention to detail in performing technical tasks and anticipating needs * Excellent customer service skills * Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English * Intermediate computer skills including familiarity with PowerPoint and Excel * Ability to maintain confidential information * Ability to train and educate staff on endoscope processes * Ability to complete reports in a timely fashion * Ability to thrive in a changing environment * Knowledge related to maintenance, cleanliness and sterilization/disinfection of instruments and equipment * Proficient in the care, handling and disinfection of all endoscopes and accessories
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
* Directly responsible for high level disinfection (HLD) and sterilization of endoscopic equipment * Reviews and audits daily logs for scope cleaning verification, testing for efficacy of disinfecting solution, trains staff to operate scope cabinet, perform test strips quality controls and completion log as per policies * Educates monthly on proper technique for infection prevention of HLD practices * Directly responsible for personnel compliance with aseptic techniques and safety standards in assigned areas * Directly responsible for annual competences for new employees on high level disinfection processes * Directly responsible for machine maintenance PM's and repairs * Resolves and reports malfunctioning equipment immediately to the supervisor or manager * Assists in orienting students, staff members and other health professionals * Assists in mentoring staff * Directly responsible for staff compliance in the instrument and supply areas. Duties in this area include sorting instruments and equipment, arranging set-ups, storing equipment for future use and picking instruments and supplies for scheduled cases. Ensures cleanliness, functionality and integrity of sterilized product. Ensures good quality assurance for completeness * Orders all department supplies * Creates action plans & provides course correction for all High-Level Disinfection deficiencies and non-compliance * Routinely checks and audits all HLD processes in CSP and Endoscopy department * Directly responsible for follow-up with RL-Datix incident reports and submits monthly error report to manager * May be rotated to Endoscopy to assist with tech shortages * Participates in and makes suggestions for Departmental Project management. This includes organization, labeling, construction, and other projects undertaken by the department * Prepares department for Joint Commission readiness with monitoring and maintaining bi-directional tracking of scopes to patient via MRN * Monitors scope repair history and ensures timely processing of scopes requiring needed maintenance, repairs, and restocking. Addresses and corrects issues and communicates directly with supervisors & manager * Checks outdates for scopes and performs random audits for scope compliance * Cleans, disinfects and sterilizes equipment after use. Maintains a sanitary environment for the provision of patient care. Maintains equipment and high level disinfects per GBMC policy. * Attends conferences annually to maintain up to date knowledge of industry changes in HLD processes * Performs all other duties as assigned by Manager * May assemble instruments when work load is high

Pay Range
$23.53 - $38.57
Final salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience and alignment with our organizational needs.
