Position Summary:

ThayerMahan is seeking a skilled Data Engineering Manager to join our team.  In this role, you will be responsible for organizing, curating, and securely storing our data assets, ensuring that it is available, and ensuring that the associated metadata is synchronized and accurate, this will include developing software to automate these processes.  You will work with engineers and scientists to develop, refine, and optimize data processes and procedures and support best practice throughout ThayerMahan.


About You:

You are an analytical, organized person that understands the value of well organized, clearly annotated data.  You have experience in managing and accessing big data and understand how to optimize its storage.  You have software development skills and experience as well as experience with, and exposure to, data science/machine learning/AI pipelines.  You are a skilled communicator able to collaborate with multiple teams and stakeholders and understand their requirements.  You are able to clearly define strategies and processes and get buy-in from stakeholders.


Role and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that our data is secure, accessible, and available.
  • Develop data governance processes to establish best practices in data management.
  • Work with acoustic analysts to understand and develop workflows for expert annotation of sensor data.
  • Work with data scientists and algorithm designers to understand and develop workflows for generating representative datasets for algorithm development.
  • Work with data scientists to understand and develop workflows for automatically labeling and annotating data sets.
  • Work with software engineers to develop applications that automate data workflows.
  • Update, write and review code, ensuring high quality and adherence to specifications.
  • Create and perform software tests to ensure code operates as designed and expected.


Location:  Full-time on-site, hybrid, or remote to Groton, CT


Qualifications and Educational Requirements:

Typical Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Relevant industry experience (including internships).
  • Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance.

Required Skills:

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services.
  • Proficiency with big data management and relevant cloud infrastructure.
  • Proficiency with Python.
  • Experience with ML processing chains and MLOps.
  • Experience with user interface development libraries.
  • Learning and adapting to new technologies.
  • Clear and efficient communication.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with web development libraries, ideally Angular.
  • Experience with Bash and Linux.
  • Experience with Git.


Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Ability to travel to Groton HQ to support on-site development.
  • Remote work is a possibility but should be located within 6 hours of Groton HQ.
  • Hybrid work is available with anywhere from zero to 4 days per week in Groton HQ as needed after an initial period.


Travel Requirements:

Travel to Groton HQ for meetings/on-site development.

Infrequent attendance of conferences/meetings (Less than 4%).
