Quality Technician (Metrology)

Summary/Objective •Create, validate, troubleshoot CMM programs, and perform precision inspections, including FAIs (First Article Inspections), to ensure product conforms to all applicable requirements. •Supports Engineering New Product Development and Investigations in Metrology, through sample measurements and feedback, early on involvement in drawing and GD&T reviews, and early measurement capability evaluations. Essential Functions •Applies advanced knowledge of GD&T and Metrology principles to program CMM’s/vision systems to ensure products meet requirements. •Performs high precision measurements of parts (machined or purchased) and create inspection reports. •Provide accurate interpretation and application of ASME standards and dimensional analysis requirements across inspection functions. •Create CMM programs using part drawings or models, troubleshoot and/or amend existing CMM programs, and perform inspections as required. •Works closely with the team to determine efficiency gaps, and to implement improvements. •Analyze measurements standards and processes to provide accurate and repeatable measurement strategies. •Work closely with Quality Engineers, Technicians and Inspectors to create instructions for using inspection tools and to develop inspection methods to meet business needs. •Supports Quality Inspection improvement activities and development of inspection plans. •Works on quality investigations involving measurement methods. •Perform other responsibilities as required. Competencies •Hands-on knowledge of mechanical inspection and proficiency in the use of manual & visual inspection equipment: e.G., Calipers, gauges, micrometers, digital indicators, surface plates, optical comparators, microscopes, coordinate measuring machine, profilometers, hardness/durometer testers. •In-depth knowledge of GD&T and application of ASME Y14.5-2018 (ASME Y14-.5 Certification preferred). •Deep understanding of mechanical engineering practices related to machined parts. •Proficiency with CMM programming is required. •Good verbal and written communication skills, data entry skills and detail oriented. •Ability to work in a team environment and to foster positive relationships with all functional groups. •Computer skills (including Microsoft Office). •Strong desire to improve, learn and to apply new skills. •Problem solving ability with an organized & analytical approach. •Proven ability to multi-task and adapt quickly to ever-changing fast-paced environment. Required Education and Experience •Associate degree or higher related to engineering, design, or manufacturing •3 years minimum of experience conducting measurements, programming inspections, gage & fixture design and reading engineering drawings. •3 years minimum Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 •Able to react to change effectively in a team setting and handle multiple tasks as assigned. •Effective oral and written communication with both technical and management audience •Experience with a multitude of measurement equipment such as CMMs, Vision systems, 3D scanning, hand gages and open layout techniques. •6 years minimum experience in a manufacturing environment •Proficient with Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint
