Childrens Hospital of Michigan is the leader in pediatric care in Michigan and we are looking to expand our 17-member team with a long running history within the community; the Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Program was the first accredited in the Midwest! 

Ideal candidate(s): 

  • Board-Eligible/Board-Certified in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine 
  • Additional training/experience preferred (e.g. Neurocritical Care)  
  • Interested in a busy academic clinical practice with opportunities in medical education and research 

About the Division: 

  • On-service and on-call shared among the group.  
  • Three attending physicians are on-service in the PICU during weekdays; two cover medical/surgical subspecialty patients while the other covers cardiovascular surgery patients.   
  • Two attending physicians are present on-call in-house night and weekends along with a pediatric critical care fellow and residents.  

The Division of Critical Care Medicine is a diverse group of critical care physicians who pursue clinical excellence in their work.  There is a strong relationship with the Division of Cardiovascular Surgery, and there is Pediatric Intensivist coverage for all CV patients.  

Within the Children's Hospital of Michigan and University Pediatricians, there is an availability of all major pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties. As a level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, we have a 48-bed combined Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Neurocritical Care Unit, and Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. We provide all pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties including cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgery, solid organ (heart, liver, and kidney) and stem cell transplantation. We provide ECMO, VAD, CRRT, HFOV, JET, and flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy in addition to having a dedicated PANDA team transport service.  

The Division of Pediatric Critical Care offers a wide range of research opportunities in collaboration with Central Michigan University College of Medicine and University Pediatrics Clinical Research Institute. We are an active member of The Pediatric Acute Lung Injury and Sepsis Investigators Network, Association of Pediatric Program Directors, The Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Consortium, and the Collaborative Pediatric Critical Care Research Network. Our faculty members are active PIs in basic science research, clinical research, quality improvement science, and multicenter research as well as recipients of K12 and K23 Award. Our division sponsors an ACGME accredited Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program founded in 1975. We provide PICU rotation opportunities for three pediatric residency programs, pediatric surgery residency, emergency medicine residency programs in metro-Detroit, and medical students from Central Michigan University and Wayne State School of Medicine.
