Incumbent will care for patients who have undergone surgical operations/procedures: general surgery; eye, ear, nose and throat; orthopedic; obstetrical and gynecological; thoracic vascular, genitourinary interventions, endoscopy and procedural sedation etc.
Duties
Delivers comprehensive nursing care specific to the age of the patient (adult, geriatric, pediatric, neonate) undergoing a wide variety of surgical procedures, ranging from simple to complex in nature, under both controlled and stressful situations-including on-call hours.
Documents care provided according to professional standards and hospital policy and assesses the effectiveness of care delivered through a post-operative audit process; modifies care practices based on evaluation results.
Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician to include, but not limited to, medication administration, intravenous fluids, and blood transfusions. Operates and monitors specialized equipment such as cardiac monitors, arterial lines, central venous lines and specialized operating room and patient care beds.
Independently manages patients receiving sedation/analgesia/anesthesia to include anatomy, physiology, pharmacological modalities, cardiac arrhythmia recognition, and complications related to adverse effects of procedural sedation and general anesthesia.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S) :
Education:
A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree From Foreign Nursing School:
Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure:
Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Experience:

GS-10 Basic Requirements

Possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program and at least one (1) full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level):
Managing the care of patients who have undergone a variety of surgical operations/procedures and those undergoing procedural sedation.
Experience in the operation and monitoring of specialized equipment such as cardiac monitors, arterial lines, central venous and Swan-Ganz pressure lines, fiber optic laryngoscopes, auto transfusion units, and specialized operating room and patient care beds.
