Job Description: This position ensures the day-to-day operational and managerial needs of Safety/Security and Emergency Preparedness are met at the associated facility. Responsible and accountable in providing leadership, management, budgetary controls, continuous improvement and integration of all departmental operations. Responsible for ensuring compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations, all accreditation agencies and Intermountain Healthcare Safety and Security policies. Scope Manages over 20 FTE's with an annual budget of $1 million. Areas of responsibility include the main hospital campus and north campus. Job Essentials Demonstrates a working knowledge of operational duties including but not limited to: Safety, Security, Environmental Safety, Hazardous Materials, Risk Management, Parking Enforcement, and Environment of Care. Accountable to successfully manage departmental and capital budgets. Manages the day-to-day operations, standards of service and attainment of available resources to promote efficient and effective service based on current best practice standards. Facilitates collaborative problem solving among interdepartmental disciplines. Participates in various local and corporate teams representing Safety & Security initiatives. Effectively uses professional and organizational best practices to support the delivery of quality services. Fosters positive working relationships with community agencies such as local Fire and Police departments. Oversees facility environmental tours and regulatory compliance activities. Assumes (or delegates) responsibility for: Maintaining department safety policies and procedures. Providing employee safety education and continuing safety education. Coordinating the tracking of hazardous chemicals. Managing the Emergency Preparedness Program. Monthly/quarterly report regarding waste management and disposal. Overseeing the hospital motor pool. Maintaining the master file of MSDS information. Provides training for spill response as deemed necessary. Ensures that all security personnel are properly trained and kept abreast of changes in the legalities affecting the hospital. Conducts criminal investigations and assists the hospital in matters of litigation, loss prevention and risk management, as required. Conducts security audits to determine loss vulnerabilities within department operation.Develops and maintains cost-effective department operation to ensure adherence to budget and cost containment efforts. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (degree will be verified) and 5 years of leadership experience in law enforcement or a security-related field OR 10 years of leadership experience in law enforcement or a security-related field. - and - Thorough knowledge of criminal activities and loss prevention techniques. - and - Demonstrated report writing ability and public relations skills. Preferred Qualifications Clear understanding of safety principles, emergency response practices and Environment of Care and Working knowledge of chemicals in a health care setting and Taser training. Physical Requirements: Carrying, climbing, crawling, hearing / listening, manual dexterity, pushing, pulling, seeing, sitting, speaking, squatting, kneeling, standing, walking.
