A Brief Overview

Vice President of Accounting Policy is responsible for directing and controlling complex aspects of the HCI accounting and financial reporting process, including: technical accounting and reporting research (on various accounting topics and issues), accounting for complex and subjective transactions (i.e., business acquisitions and dispositions, financings, reorganizations, consolidation/variable interest entities), preparing and reviewing significant transaction memos, project managing the implementation of new accounting and reporting technical pronouncements for the overall enterprise, and enhancing accounting policies, processes and controls. This position requires leadership and influence of direct reports, timely follow through and effective communication with a wide audience crossing all functions of the organization, including executive management.

What you will do

  • Serves as the company's subject matter expert for subjective GAAP accounting areas with an in-depth knowledge on topics such as leasing, consolidation/variable interest entities, foreign currency translation, income taxes, service concession arrangements, revenue recognition, financial investments and CECL.
  • Serves as a resource person for other department heads, superiors, peers, and employees on accounting policies, and accounting and reporting considerations related to mergers, acquisitions and other significant transactions.
  • Responsible for GAAP technical policy research and recommending accounting treatment conclusions in subjective areas of GAAP to senior management across all business units.
  • Leads and oversees the research of complex transactions and technical accounting issues.
  • Stays up to date on current FASB initiatives, anticipating and communicating potential future accounting implications to senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Responsible for preparing and reviewing technical accounting memos relating to the company's conclusions for complex/subjective transactions.
  • Leads the timely adoption of new technical accounting pronouncements including defining and deploying new processes and systems with procedures and controls for process sustainability.
  • Within areas of responsibility evaluates existing controls and identifies opportunities for improvement.
  • Serves as a resource for process owners and department heads in evaluating business processes relevant to financial accounting and related controls.
  • Organizes the accounting department to insure proper accounting for all pertinent records.
  • Develops, manages, and oversees an effective internal control environment.
  • Serves as a technical resource person for other department heads, superiors, peers, and employees.
  • Serves as a consultant to management, deal teams and business partners in structuring transactions and during negotiations with counterparties on accounting strategies and related implications for both the Company and its counterparties (e.g., consolidation strategies, lease strategies and modeling for DoD contract consumption, and evaluating potential service concession arrangements with VIE and leasing considerations).
  • Provides project management leadership, consultation and support for various global projects, including systems implementations, accounting standards adoptions, and other improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinates year-end and quarter-end activities including audits, reviews and audit schedules.
  • Prepares and reviews financial statements, footnotes and supporting schedules and performs analysis prior to distribution.
  • Create and document accounting policies and procedures.
  • Delegates authority to supervisory staff for task details to facilitate efficient utilization of Company resources, and continually helps team improve process efficiency.
  • Serves as liaison with external consultants, auditors and other specialists on technical accounting matters and significant transactions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting Required
  • Master's Degree MBA or in accounting Preferred
  • Minimum of eight to ten years of technical accounting and reporting experience, preferably corporate accounting for a large/complex multibillion dollar global company. Leading an accounting policy team is a plus. Required
  • Strong business acumen skills with a minimum of eight to ten years broad based business experience, including reviewing documents and decerning relevant business and accounting matters for significant and complex transactions. Required
  • Strong project management skills and significant experience leading and balancing multiple global accounting and operational initiatives, including scoping, planning, scheduling, and on-going monitoring to meet required deadlines. Required
  • Working knowledge of modern ERP systems such as Workday or Oracle. Preferred
  • Strong knowledge of chart of accounts, general ledger, trial balance, financial statement preparation, GAAP and internal control policies and procedures required.
  • Management ability to direct, guide, motivate, and develop staff.
  • Ability to prioritize for self and others, strong organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to define problems and organize efficient solutions, analyze data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Displays teamwork by balancing team and individual responsibilities.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office applications. Advanced working knowledge of MS Excel is required.
  • Must be comfortable performing accounting training to large groups.
  • Requires a detail oriented, self-starter who takes initiative, owns and can be a part of a high-performing team.
  • Must demonstrate strong attention to detail, excellent accountability and follow-through skills.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of technical accounting research and application.
  • Is clear and concise with communication skills and interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and industry professionals.
  • Knowledge of Workday, JD Edwards E-1 and other reporting tools a plus.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with Big 4 public accounting or public company Required
