General Description:
We are seeking a Senior Accounting Manager - General Ledger (GL) to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment and contribute to the growth and success of our firm. This position offers the flexibility to work from home. Periodic in-office presence is required for team meetings, events, and training opportunities. This role is based in the firm's Operation Center (Tampa Bay area). The Senior Accounting Manager - General Ledger (GL) will manage all accounting activities to ensure compliance with the modified cash basis of accounting, corporate policies and external audits. This person will manage the Accounting Department, monthly closing of accounts and preparation of reports in support of the financial statements. The Senior Accounting Manager - General Ledger (GL) will report to and work closely with the Director of Finance and others in the organization in analysis and reconciliation of accounts and in development and implementation of accounting policies, procedures and controls.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:
- Preparation of monthly financial statements and related documents
- Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations and ensure that there is a redundant process backup in place for every critical operation.
- Responsible for ensuring that all balance sheet and agreed-upon income statement accounts, including system/control accounts, are actively and accurately reconciled monthly and that reconciliations are prepared and reviewed timely.
- Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
- Hiring, training and supervising accounting staff
- Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
- Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Participate in the ongoing development/establishment of accounting policies and procedures and operational strategies including the review and implementation of process and system changes.
- Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
- Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
- Make recommendations for changes as needed and ensure that company policies and procedures are followed and establishes the proper techniques to discover and prevent fraud.
- Collaborates with the other finance department managers to support overall department goals and objectives.
- Treasury management including cash projection and relationships with bankers.
- Manages all external and internal audit requests and functions, primary source of contact for the auditors who perform the annual financial audit.
- Lease evaluation and oversight
- Manage all accounting aspects of any foundation work for the firm.
- Responds to inquiries from the Director of Finance, CFO and firm-wide managers regarding financial results and special reporting requests.
- Monitor compliance with debt covenants and coordinate the preparation of the quarterly and annual debt covenant compliance reporting packages.
- Support the Director of Finance with special projects and workflow process improvements.
- Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which allows for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting.
- Outstanding interpersonal and oral and written communication skills. Ability to work in a collegial matter with a variety of attorneys and staff. Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels.
- Strong time and project management skills.
- Demonstrated management experience at an appropriate senior level, including establishing, leading, and managing teams and cross-functional resources.
- Extensive experience with general ledger functions, the month-end/year-end close process and the preparation of financial statements. Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures and general ledger and sub-ledger interaction.
- Ability to work independently and be proactive.
- Unwavering integrity with the highest level of personal and professional ethics and keen appreciation for confidentiality.
- Must be a proactive, hands-on strategic thinker who will own, in partnership with the Director of Finance and the CFO, the responsibility for functions under his or her responsibility.
- Foresight and ability to delegate accordingly.
- Experience with multi-currency accounting and consolidation of foreign subsidiaries.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple departments/groups in a dynamic environment.
- Detail-oriented, while never losing sight of the bigger picture and long-term goals.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and perform well under pressure.
- Advanced excel skills, including VLOOKUP's and pivot tables.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting
- 7+ years prior supervisory experience in the accounting/financial reporting/general ledger area
- CPA preferred
- Law firm or professional services firm accounting experience
- Experience with Aderant Expert
- Treasury management experience
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Moderate or advanced keyboard usage
