Job Description

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Assist the physician and staff with the daily coordination of patient care and physician access.
  2. Function as the liaison between patients, staff, and physicians.
  3. Maintain efficient patient flow.
  4. Deliver direct patient care within the scope of licensure and in accordance with SUMMIT policy.
  5. Collect lab specimens according to departmental guidelines. Accurately label specimens.
  6. Prioritize patient care by implementing physician orders and nursing procedures.
  7. Ensure proper preparation for patient visit. Prepare pertinent information needed for patient visit.
  8. Effectively communicate problems, concerns or issues to the Office Supervisor/Manager appropriately and promptly.
  9. Assure all patients are correctly identified prior to providing and/or documenting care.
  10. Employ appropriate and timely use of Tasking in EHR.
  11. Obtain vital signs: BP, temp, pulse, height & weight accurately and completely as required. Document appropriately in EHR.
  12. Administer injections according to appropriate protocol. Document injections accurately in EHR.
  13. Demonstrate telephone triage protocols and document in EHR.
  14. Schedule appointments appropriately and accurately according to department guidelines.
  15. Adhere to universal safety precautions when administering medications and disposal of medical waste.
  16. Review and update medication list in EHR. Demonstrate understanding of prescription control and prescription refill procedures. Accurately and completely document known allergies in EHR.
  17. Enter orders and schedule appointments in the Practice Management System (PMS) and EHR.
  18. Provide referrals and/or consult orders appropriately and in a timely manner in the PMS and EHR.
  19. Check and maintain logs for emergency equipment according to policy.
  20. Facilitate transition of care to UCC/Hospital.
  21. Maintain proficiency with department specific equipment troubleshoots and report malfunctions promptly.

Education, Certification, Computer and Training Requirements:

  1. Associates degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  2. Oregon State Nursing License and BLS certification required.
  3. 0 – 1 years’ experience. 2-4 years’ experience preferred.
  4. Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
  5. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  6. Ability to perform diverse work assignments with time limitations with a high degree of accuracy.
  7. Ability to use problem solving, critical thinking and priority setting skills.
  8. Experience with Standard Office Technology in a Windows based environment preferred.
  9. Experience with patient care equipment preferred.
  10. Experience with EHR, Practice Management System and Departmental/Ancillary Systems preferred.
