Position Summary: The Staff Accountant will prepare workpapers and assist in the preparation of financial statements and footnotes in accordance with both Statutory and US GAAP. Will be responsible for the preparation of journal entries and reconciliations for monthly and quarterly close, and the documentation and monitoring of certain relevant internal controls for SOX compliance. This position will provide the opportunity to interact with various areas and departments across the finance function with great long-term growth opportunities, including opportunities for interaction with senior level management. Role Responsibilities: Assist in the quarterly close process, both Statutory and GAAP, including: Preparation of journal entries Statutory GAAP adjustments to Statutory accounting Ad hoc Performance of Balance Sheet tie out and various other internal control work Assist with the analysis and preparation of actual results, quarterly trend analysis, and communication of results to senior management Perform Trust analysis and reporting to external parties Assist in continuous process improvements, including identification and implementation of opportunities for process and control enhancements Assist in the preparation and related filing of: Quarterly and Annual NAIC Statements (Bluebook) Annual Statutory Audited Financial Statements Various State regulatory reporting GAAP Consolidated Audited Financial Statements Assist with the annual internal and external audits, as well as DOI examinations as needed Work across departments and with various Third-Party Administrators (TPAs) and vendors as needed Assist with other various regulatory and rating agency reporting requirements Perform other related duties as required, based on the changing goals and objectives of the department and organization Basic Qualifications: Exposure to and basic understanding of US GAAP and US Statutory accounting principles Continuous improvement mindset with the ability to 'think outside the box' to improve processes Excellent interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills Strong analytical capabilities and good organizational skills Motivated with ability to take initiative and manage competing priorities while consistently hitting deadlines Willing to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and SharePoint Life insurance (reinsurance) experience, including statutory Bluebook reporting a plus Required Education / Certifications: BS or BA in Accountancy preferred 3-6 years of accounting experience in public accounting or private sector Mathematics or other with equivalent accounting experience considered Candidate with CPA or MBA a plus Pay/Location Norwalk, CT Hybrid Structure Minimal to no travel required Base salary/hourly rate range for this position in Connecticut is between $70,000 and $ 110,000 Please note that specific compensation decisions are based upon a variety of job-related factors as permitted by law, including geographic location, credentials, skills, education, training, and experience. Base salary is just one component of Wilton Re's total compensation package for employees. Additional compensation includes annual performance-based bonus, 401K with employer contribution, and profit-sharing program. Employee may also be eligible for long-term incentives (equity). All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
