OVERVIEW: The Marine Carpenter is responsible for carpentry repair. KEY TASKS: Main a good work ethic and attitude. Maintain quality of all work done. Complete repair work in a timely manner Perform carpentry repairs and modifications both in and out of water as specified on work orders. Maintain and use necessary hand tools as outlined on tool list. Must have the ability to safely operate shop woodworking machinery. Must have a complete understanding of marine grade types of hardwoods and plywood for each application as well as what type pf glue to use under these applications. It is also important for the employee to have an understanding of interior and exterior décor and understand decorator and architectural drawings as needed for individual jobs. Be responsible for many jobs in addition to woodworking such as outfitting of hardware to exterior of yachts and must have the ability to periodically board vessels in and out of the water, work steadily in confined spaces, climb, lift, and move lumber and supplies as necessary. Must understand basic requirements for proper disposal of hazardous materials (i.e. solvents, paint related waste) Must understand how to properly store materials, contain particulate matter and have a solid understanding for environmental regulations and a respect for same. Must continually use proper protective materials when working. Must be available to work irregular and overtime hours as required to accomplish production schedule Must use personal protective equipment as necessary.
