Salary: $43,929.60 Annually Location : Myrtle Beach, SC Job Type: Regular Full Time Employee Job Number: 01598 Department: Public Works Division: Public Works - Street Maintenance Opening Date: 11/20/2024 Closing Date: 12/2/2024 5:00 PM Eastern Job Announcement Job Description CITY OF MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTION CLASSIFICATION TITLE: CONCRETE FINISHER PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION The purpose of this classification is to perform semi-skilled work functions in the maintenance of concrete areas within the City limits; assures a safe work area; follow safety regulations; and assist in maintaining equipment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Work involves building, setting and aligning concrete forms, placing wire mesh and concrete and applying fine concrete finishing methods in new construction and rebuilding of sidewalks, curbs, gutters, vaults, fences, retaining walls, playground equipment foundations and related concrete structures. Performs a variety of tasks including forming, pouring, finishing and repairing concrete surfaces according to City of Myrtle Beach specifications and ADA guidelines. Builds, erects and aligns forms for various concrete structures and foundations. Estimates concrete quantities, appropriate mixes of sand and cement if concrete is hand mixed. Fine finishes concrete by floating, troweling, edging and brushing in accordance with specifications. Utilizes hand tools and small power tools and performs minor maintenance as required. Drives or operates trucks, backhoe and other equipment as needed to accomplish function. Assures safe work area; flags traffic at work area as needed; follows safety regulations; may attend safety meetings. Assists in performing routine servicing and maintenance of equipment used in carrying out assignments, including such tasks as fueling trucks and cleaning exterior and interior. Sets up and assists with citywide special events. Assists with clean-up after natural disasters. Loads and unloads equipment and supplies. Makes pre-trip equipment inspections. Maintains simple records. Performs other related duties as required ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS Performs other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED; six months of experience in setting forms for sidewalks, curb/gutter, and foundations required. Experience operating a backhoe preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. ADA COMPLIANCE Physical Ability: Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). Sensory Requirements : Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, depth, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Environmental Factors : Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, or disease.
