Please apply if you want to build a career here Title: Senior Staff Accountant, Texas CPA Position's Role Summary: NTBHA is the Local Behavioral Health Authority (LBHA) contracted by Texas Human Services Commission (HHSC) to provide mental health and substance use disorder services to qualified indigent consumers in our six-county region of Dallas, Ellis, Hunt, Kaufman, Navarro, and Rockwall Counties. We are responsible for developing a collaborative system of care for individuals in crisis in the NTBHA service area. We are focused on trauma-informed, resilience-oriented care in all services provided. The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for the accounting and financial data for NTBHA as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer and Finance Director. Work is performed under the direction of the Accounting Manager. The Senior Staff Accountant compiles and assists in preparing financial data and records, ensuring that all financial data is recorded in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and on a basis consistent with NTBHA's policies and procedures. Job duties, responsibilities, and skills: This position is responsible for preparing fiscal reports which include the compilation and analysis of data for monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. Assists with monthly status reports, monthly closing process and annual audit process. Assist in the financial planning of the organization including the annual budget preparation for assigned departments and programs. Responsible for the annual preparation of the Schedule of State Expenditures (SSES) Schedule and the Schedule of Federal Expenditures (SEFA). Assist with schedule preparation for annual & single audit. Assist with site & desk audits. Submit all responses for review before submission. Ensures that effective internal controls are strictly adhered to. Prepares all Grant Reports (monthly/quarterly/annually) required for Mental Health Federal, State, and Local Grants and contracts. Assures reports are filed timely and accurately. Reconciles assigned grant financial reports to the general ledger. Investigates and resolve reconciling items Reconciles balance sheet accounts monthly by identifying errors in posting or omissions by applying appropriate GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and GASB (Governmental Accounting Standards to ensure accurate presentation within financial statements. Assists in preparing monthly Cash Flow Forecasts and Cash Flow Projections. Maintains cash management records, including funds drawn and received, funds disbursed by sources, deposits of funds, issuance of refunds, and classifies revenue as to sources of funding. Prepares assigned monthly bank account reconciliations and all related journal entries. Prepares timely bank deposits. Special Projects as assigned Files, maintains, and distributes accounting documents, records and reports. Protects NTBHA values by keeping information confidential. Performs other duties as required to support Finance Department, senior/executive level managers and program managers. Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills - Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc., with an ability to become familiar with company-specific programs and software. Must be able to work on and have knowledge of a PC (personal computer). Duties and projects may be assigned or changed to meet business needs. Qualifications required: Texas CPA license required Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an AACSB-accredited school of business Three to five years working in all aspects of budgeting, accounting, including general ledger, payroll, reconciliations & financial statement preparation. Experience with mid-market accounting software, non-profit accounting and or governmental accounting and federal grants preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and ability to work with mid-market accounting packages - advanced MS Excel user preferred. Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations. Blackbaud experience a plus. Strong organizational skills; must be detail oriented and provide accurate financial information. Ability to work effectively in a group or independently. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines and complete tasks on time. Independent judgment and the ability to work with little supervision are necessary.
