Job Summary: The Agriculture Research Development Program (ARDP) at Central State University is seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist (Agricultural Robotics) specializing in developing robotic solutions for raspberries and other specialty crops. The candidate is expected to have experience with sensors, drones, and robotic systems for agricultural research. The position’s start date is October 1st, 2024. This is a full-time position funded by annual allocation by National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) through the Evans Allen Program with matching contributions from the State of Ohio. The appointment will initially be for three years but may be renewed based on performance and is contingent on availability of funds for renewal. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct research in precision agriculture applications with a focus on sensor systems and robotics. Design, develop, and integrate sensor systems on robotic platforms for agricultural solutions. Program (using ROS/python/C++) and troubleshoot robotics systems for data collection in lab and field environments. Collect and manage field data. Mentor and collaborate with undergraduate students and team members to conduct field experiments. Assistance with preparing presentations and publications. Time division (approximate): 40% program, prototype, and system development, 20% field experiment setup and data collection, 20% data analysis, and 20% manuscript writing. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in agricultural engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, mechatronics, mechanical engineering, or a related field. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge and experience with electromechanical design and prototype/sensors/actuators, and/or computer vision systems. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with optical sensors, camera systems, ROS, Gazebo, or similar simulators. Evidence of peer-reviewed publications in agricultural robotics. Experience using Machine learning, deep learning, and Computer vision for agricultural solutions. Ability to work under limited supervision. Posting Date:
