ABOUT THE ROLE This position assists the General Counsel with a broad range of legal duties including but not limited to contract review and management, complaint management, and assisting with compliance and legal questions. This role works closely with internal staff as well as outside vendors to manage legal projects and provide a supporting role for compliance issues.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES (in descending order of importance and should be no more than 10, if possible) Drafts, reviews and advises on legal contracts and agreements to ensure proper due diligence, risk mitigation to the organization, and compliance with organizational policies and external laws and regulations. Establishes and maintains a comprehensive contract management system including but not limited to renewal tracking and a contract clause library. Provides substantial support to the Compliance team to ensure the organization complies with all relevant laws, regulations, policies, and standards. Create and maintain a resource library for staff to reference when they have questions. Develops and maintains expert knowledge and understanding of laws and regulations affecting financial institutions. Assists the General Counsel in responding to regulatory and other member complaints. Collaborates with Compliance and member experience team to enhance a complaint management system. Provides assistance and support to SVP, General Counsel & Chief Risk Officer on potential or actual merger and acquisition opportunities identified by the credit union. Performs all other duties as assigned by the SVP, General Counsel & Chief Risk Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education Juris Doctorate degree required from an accredited law school. Must be barred/licensed to practice law, preferably in Rhode Island and/or Massachusetts. Experience/Skills/Knowledge: Four years of previous experience at a law firm or in corporate law required. Must have a working understanding and knowledge of laws and regulations impacting the financial services industry. Must have prior experience in contract law, including drafting, negotiating and interpreting contracts. Must have excellent organizational, analytical, researching and problem-solving skills. Exceptional persuasion, negotiation and interpersonal skills required. Must have the ability to handle multiple projects/priorities simultaneously with an effective outcome and limited direction. Ability to deal with highly confidential information is required. Must possess strong service orientation skills in alignment with the credit union's mission and core values. Excellent verbal, written, telephone, and interpersonal communication skills required. PC proficient, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and the Internet. The ability to establish and cultivate strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to build consensus is required. Ability to function in a commercial office environment and utilize standard office equipment including but not limited to fax, copier, telephone, etc. Some travel is required. Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. e.g., file boxes.
