The Bluefield Arts Revitalization Corporation/Arts Center is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader for the role of
Executive Director . Reporting to a volunteer Board of Directors, the Executive Director will oversee all aspects of operations, including performances, movies, exhibits, and special events across two fully restored, historic venues in downtown Bluefield, WV. Bluefield, once known as "Little New York" during the coal boom, is now a vibrant town nestled in the Appalachian Mountains, experiencing a renaissance in arts and entertainment. With two colleges nearby, the town offers an exciting cultural landscape.
Position Overview:
The Executive Director will be responsible for implementing a strategic vision that aligns with the mission of the Bluefield Arts Revitalization Corporation /Arts Center: to expand access to the arts for the diverse population of southern West Virginia and the surrounding areas. Our goal is to foster a thriving creative environment where artists of all disciplines can develop and showcase their talents.
The ideal candidate is a passionate advocate for the arts, a skilled communicator, and a proven leader with experience in arts management and fundraising. A successful candidate will have a track record in securing funding through grants, managing arts programming, and collaborating with artists and community stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy:
Develop and implement strategies to generate revenue through programming, grants, gifts, and fundraising efforts. Support the expansion of audience engagement and programming across the community and region. Develop and maintain overall and program specific budgets.
Programming & Events:
Curate a full range of performances, films, gallery exhibits, and special events across two venues. Manage day-to-day operations, including scheduling, planning, and the execution of events.
Marketing & Communications:
Utilize media technology and digital platforms to effectively market events and raise awareness of the organization’s mission. Maintain a consistent message in communications with the media and public.
Community Engagement:
Engage the community through high-quality programming and educational opportunities, expanding access to the arts. Build partnerships with artists, musicians, students, and other arts organizations to foster a dynamic arts scene.
Personnel Management:
Recruit, hire, train, develop, supervise, coach, schedule, and, if necessary, terminate employees.
Fundraising & Development:
Lead efforts in grant writing, donor development, and sponsorship acquisition to support current operations and future growth. Provide regular updates to the Board on fundraising opportunities and strategies for long-term sustainability.
Qualifications:
Proven success in arts administration or a related field, with a demonstrated commitment to arts advocacy.
Experience managing a non-profit organization, including budgeting, fundraising, and grant writing.
Advanced degree in Arts Management, Non-Profit Management, or a related field preferred; however, candidates with a relevant bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of professional experience in arts management will also be considered.
Excellent communication, project management, and leadership skills.
Passion for the arts and a commitment to enriching the cultural life of the community.
