Job Title: SW Applications Engineer

Job Description

This position provides various aspects of development and customer support for Building Management Systems (BMS), including Continuum and EcoStruxure. Expertise in programming sequences of operation for large and complex systems is required. Knowledge of Modbus and BACnet is desired. This engineer will assist in developing innovations and providing product application support to customers and sales engineers and be responsible for providing customers with technical support for developing, implementing, and integrating specialized applications or software packages. The applicant must have strong communication and customer service skills to interpret customer desires and preferences, as well as the technical skills to troubleshoot hardware and software system failures. Interaction with customers to provide and process information in response to inquiries, concerns, and requests about products and services is a key part of the role. Limited travel will be required (approximately 10-25%).

Responsibilities

Develop code to monitor and control electrical and mechanical devices to deliver ventilation, steam, chilled water, hot water, and humidification.

Resolve programming problems by clarifying the project manager’s complaint, determining the cause of the problem, selecting and explaining the best solution to solve the problem, expediting correction or adjustment, and following up to ensure resolution.

Contribute to the team effort in innovation, troubleshooting, and developing various aspects of BMS systems.

Promote, build, and maintain good relations with customers, consultants, and project management; keep the supervisor informed of needs and actual or potential problems.

Provide technical guidance and support, including set-up, check-out, operation, and troubleshooting of complex building automation and control systems; verify the functional performance of systems.

Provide recommendations on equipment and systems operation and modification for energy conservation, efficiency, and reliability.

Perform emergency connections to neutralize alarm conditions and restore proper operation.

Essential Skills

Proficiency in C++ or another Object Oriented Programming language (C#, Java, Python)

Knowledge of Modbus and BACnet protocols.

Strong communication and customer service skills.

Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software system failures.

Additional/Bonus Skills & Qualifications

Experience with MQTT/RabbitMQ

Proficiency in function block programming (MATLAB/Simulink, Mathematica)

Experience with Windows and SQL.

Knowledge of Tridium (Generic Controls frontend).

2-5+ years of relevant experience.

Background in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, HVAC, or electrical fields is ideal, but no degree is required.

Work Environment

10-50% onsite depending on projects. Otherwise, remote work is permitted. Limited travel required (approximately 10-25%).

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $62.50 - $72.12/hr.
