Our Client:

Our client's Engineering & Construction Business Unit is a leader in the energy sector, specializing in engineering solutions that drive sustainable infrastructure development across North America. They are seeking a Principal Engineer - Switchyard to join their team remotely for a 12-month contract.

Position Overview:

As a Principal Engineer, you will oversee all aspects of switchyard projects from early-stage conception through to construction and commissioning. This role requires technical expertise in substation design, strong project management skills, and the ability to ensure compliance with industry codes and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all assigned switchyard projects from early-stage conception to execution.
  • Collaborate with the Early-Stage Project Manager to define engineering requirements and scope.
  • Provide technical oversight and training to external Engineers of Record (EOR) to ensure project compliance.
  • Coordinate with transmission owners and stakeholders to secure switchyard sites and necessary permits.
  • Source and manage engineering consultants and contractors through competitive bidding processes.
  • Ensure project designs meet ISO requirements and are aligned with Transmission Owner specifications.
  • Manage major material orders and support cost estimating and project commissioning activities.
  • Collaborate with legal and OEMs to enhance project designs and ensure regulatory compliance.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in substation design and engineering for high-voltage projects.
  • Proven project management experience with a strong bias for action.
  • PMP and/or P.E. in a related discipline is a plus.
  • Ability to travel within North America as needed.
