Overview As our Labor & Delivery Nurse at CHI Saint Jospeh Health, you'll guide the mother through the labor and childbirth process, focusing on the safety of mom and baby, with kindness and compassion. To thrive in this role, you'll be flexible in triaging patients, performing screening exams, or guiding patients through routine inductions and deliveries. You'll consistently be monitoring the mother's dilation progress while also keeping close watch on baby's fetal heart rate. You'll be coaching mom as the baby is delivered and providing updates and support to mom and baby's loved ones. We have wonderful days where we get to be with new parents through the biggest milestone in their lives. We also have hard days comforting parents as they grieve. As part of our care team, you are sensitive and understanding to different circumstances and above all, you remain calm in all situations. Key Responsibilities: Triage walk-ins to determine if a patient is in labor, water is broken, false alarm, etc Support pregnant patients in labor including induction, epidural assistance (if needed), general pain management and fetal monitoring Assist and circulate in the operating room for cesarean sections, tubal ligation, cerclage and emergency procedures Educate patients on various interventions or procedures - medications (name and purpose), exams, and labor stages Assess newborn and provide care Communicate with the care management team, including anesthesiologist, physician or midwife, lactation nurse, charge nurse, postpartum unit, patient and family Incentives: We're offering a $25,000 sign on bonus AND up to $24,000 in outstanding student loan pay off for new hires that meet eligibility requirements. Responsible for daily patient care assignments, maintaining clinical standards of care, maintaining labor productivity and supervision of the patient care environment; supporting the care team. Supports the activities of the Nurse Manager. Maintains positive inter- and intra-departmental relationships. Directs patient throughput activities in the assigned unit. Maintains evidence-based nursing practices to achieve desirable patient outcomes in accordance with the Kentucky Nurse Practice Act. Essential Key Job Responsibilities Provides direct supervision of personnel practicing on Nursing Units, makes patient care assignments, evaluates assignments, facilitates patient throughout, and directly observes staff performance on their assigned shift. Proactively matches existing resources seeking ways to provide patient care that supports staff and maintains a therapeutic environment. Monitors productivity and assures that staffing and resources are aligned with patient care needs. Communicates personnel related concerns to the Unit Manager. Uses a logical, systematic approach to problems and problem-solving. Facilitates Patient Experience best practices on the unit (hourly rounding, etc.) Maintains Unit Professional standards. Holds staff accountable for behaviors and attitudes. Maintains confidentiality of information of the department. Assists in audits and data collection as requested. Contributes to the efficient operation of the department. Performs direct patient care and accepts an assigned group of patients as needed. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Associate's Degree (ADN) in Nursing from an accredited nursing college or program Active Registered Nurse (RN) license cleared by the Kentucky Board of Nursing or with eNLC multi-state practice privilege Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS ) required to obtain within 3 months post hire Neonatal Resusitation Program (NRP) required to obtain within 3 months post hire Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) Previous L&D experience strongly preferred
