Position Summary
The Chief Lending Officer (CLO) will oversee all aspects of the Credit Union's lending operations, including consumer, mortgage and commercial lending ensuring that the lending programs align with the strategic goals of the Credit Union. This role will require a visionary leader with the ability to manage and inspire a team, develop and implement lending strategies and maintain strong risk management practices. The CLO will also play a key role in optimizing lending performance, growing the loan portfolio and ensuring compliance with regulations. Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership :
Develop and execute a comprehensive lending strategy that supports the Credit Union's growth, profitability and member satisfaction goals. Work with the executive team to define long-term financial and operational objectives for the lending function. Provide leadership in developing innovative lending products and services that meet the needs of our diverse membership. Lending Operations :
Oversee the day-to-day operations of all lending areas, including consumer, home loans and commercial loans. Ensure lending policies, processes and systems are optimized for efficiency, member experience and compliance. Direct and support the management of the lending staff ensuring proper training, performance metrics and resource allocation. Risk Management & Compliance :
Develop and maintain robust risk management policies and procedures to minimize lending risk while ensuring loan portfolio quality. Ensure compliance with all relevant state and federal regulations, including but not limited to NCUA, CFPB and other lending-related guidelines. Monitor loan performance, delinquency, and charge-off trends and implement corrective actions as needed. Financial Performance :
Drive loan growth maintaining a balance between risk and profitability. Manage the lending budget ensuring operational efficiency and cost control. Analyze the lending portfolio performance by recommending changes or enhancements to maximize return on assets. Member Experience & Service Excellence :
Champion a member-first approach within the lending team ensuring excellent service delivery across all lending channels. Foster a culture of service excellence and responsiveness to member needs in all aspects of lending. Act as an escalation point for complex lending issues ensuring member concerns are resolved promptly and effectively. Team Development & Collaboration :
Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing team of lending professionals. Work closely with other departments including marketing and retail operations to ensure integrated lending solutions. Develop performance goals for the lending team and provide ongoing coaching and feedback. Who Are You?
A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in lending management with at least five (5) years in a senior leadership role within a credit union or financial institution. Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance or related field. MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred. Proven track record of success in managing a large and diverse loan portfolio preferably within a credit union setting. Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and lending best practices. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to drive change and innovation within a traditional lending environment. Strong analytical and financial skills with the ability to assess portfolio performance and make data-driven decisions. In-depth knowledge of consumer, mortgage and commercial lending products and markets. Experience with loan origination systems (LOS) and other lending technologies. Strong commitment to the Credit Union’s values of service, community and member satisfaction. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
