HP092 Linux Systems Administrator
ADNET Systems, Inc. is seeking a Linux Systems Administrator at the NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. The position will support NASA's Space Physics Data Facility (SPDF - the NASA active and permanent archive for space physics data) and NASA's Space Science Data Coordinated Archive (NSSDCA). These facilities provide access to data through many services, such as the Coordinated Data Analysis Web (CDAWeb) data browsing system, and enables cross-disciplinary and collaborative research worldwide.
The SPDF and NSSDCA teams use a variety of open-source tools, creative IT approaches, and powerful hardware to accomplish their missions. The systems administrator is a crucial member of these teams who enables critical services to run securely and efficiently. The candidate must demonstrate an ability to proactively manage systems and mitigate issues before they become problems. The candidate will work in a production and real-time processing environment that includes changing scientific and security requirements over time, and must be physically able to come to the GSFC site to physically work on hardware systems such as servers and tape libraries.
Requirements: At least three years of experience with Linux administration, particularly Red Hat Enterprise Linux or its derivatives Experience setting up Network File Sharing (NFS) servers and clients Ability to install and configure open source and third-party software Knowledge of system backup and restoration (Bacula) Ability to configure tape drive systems, for backup purposes and for reading old archive tapes. Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and methodical Excellent communications skills, written and verbal, including the ability to discern the intent of requests and offer informed recommendations Ability to adapt to changing security requirements and their impact on workflows Initiative and experience in managing projects independently
Desired Experience:
Knowledge of high availability and fault tolerant environments Experience setting up web servers Experience working in a Data Center Experience troubleshooting network connection issues Working knowledge of firewall configuration Experience implementing Government networking and operating system security controls Software development experience, especially in Bash, Perl, IDL, MATLAB, Python, C, or Fortran Experience with SElinux Experience with open source packages, such as ZFS, Bacula, Apache, ProFTPd, PostgreSQL Basic competence with Git and Puppet, or similar source and system management tools Demonstrated ability to document workflows or data flows Experience in testing configuration and software changes in a development environment Evidence of learning new packages and processes quickly and accurately
US Citizenship and local residency in the Washington DC metropolitan area are required for this position.
