Media Engineering handles audio, video, and metadata content from ingest through publish - for normalization, processing, and packaging - supporting operator tools and automation for a scalable workflow. We build logic across players and back-end services to measure, control, and optimize playback across our stack. The Media Processing and Distribution (MPD) Core Media team develops the video encoding, packaging, and orchestration systems that power Disney’s video streaming platforms (Disney, ESPN, and Hulu). We are looking for hardworking team players to join Media Engineering, who will thrive on Disney’s story telling legacy, who will embrace unconventional thinking, and who are passionate about contributing to The Walt Disney Company’s direct-to-consumer (DTC) experience. The Core Media Manufacturing Software Engineer II (P2) position’s daily responsibilities include: Contribute to the design, implementation, integration, deployment, and support of a complex Video-on-Demand (VOD) workflow orchestration system. Participate in design and code reviews Develop a highly functional understanding of Disney Streaming’s VOD workflows, the orchestration system software components and how those components integrate with other systems. Debug complex issues involving workflows across multiple systems in QA and production environments. Contribute to the planning of small to mid-size projects, requirements discovery, identification of task breakdowns, providing sizing estimates and helping with planning work allocation. Apply Agile methodology and practices, including participation in regular scrums and sprint planning. Regularly communicate and collaborate with the engineering manager, project manager, and other team members regarding the of projects and support issues. Participate in and help foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and open communication with stakeholders across adjacent teams. Participate in an on-call support rotation to troubleshoot and resolve VOD workflow issues in Disney Streaming’s production environment. Basic Qualifications: BA/BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related engineering field. 3 years (1 with MS degree) software development industry experience. Proficient in Java programing language Experience with Spring/Spring-Boot frameworks Experience with XML, JSON, REST APIs Experience with AWS architecture (S3, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, Lambda, MSK) Experience in SQL/no-SQL database design and writing database queries Experience working with CI/CD tools, Docker and Kubernetes Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills Ability to function in a virtual team setting and effectively collaborate Willingness to "think-outside-of-the-box" to resolve project challenges and improve development processes/systems Strong technical, problem-solving, analytical skills. Preferred Qualifications: Experience developing and maintaining complex highly scalable back-end systems using Java. Experienced in reactive system architecture and messaging systems (e.g., Kafka) Experience with Scala programing language Excellent time management skills with the ability to multitask effectively A desire to work in a fast-paced and challenging work environment. The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $120,300.00 to $161,300.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
