Senior Accountant Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Finance, the Senior Accountant plays a crucial role in the daily operations of the College's Finance Office. The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining the accuracy of general ledger accounts, has primary ownership of the fixed asset module, participates in the monthly and year-end close processes, as well as prepares the College's financial statements. Essential Functions: 1. General Accounting: Perform daily cash account reconciliations; Ensure daily financial system feeds feed properly; Review and process staff, student, and faculty payroll entries; Prepare general ledger account reconciliations, working towards the successful resolution of reconciling items; Reconcile sub-ledgers balances to general ledger balances (student accounts, accounts payable, fixed assets), working towards the successful resolution of reconciling items; Maintain fixed asset module, processing necessary monthly and annual journal entries; Reconcile investment accounts; Process miscellaneous journal entries, maintaining supporting documentation; Prepare and maintain gift reconciliations, working closely with Development; Assist with the preparation of annual audit schedules; Perform other general accounting activities as requested. 2. Reporting: Prepare monthly financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); Prepare weekly financial dashboard reports; Assist with the annual Abandoned Property Reporting process; Prepare other ad-hoc financial reporting, as needed. 3. Other Duties: Assessment of internal controls and processes; making suggestions for improvement where appropriate; Assist with annual budget process by providing account analyses as requested; Provide back-up support for other Finance Office functions, as needed. Additional Functions: Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or their designee. Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; Five- to- seven years of related experience; Excellent understanding of and technical expertise in accounting principles; Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel; Working knowledge of general accounting / finance systems; Ability to effectively communicate, interact with, and support effective partnerships with customers, superiors, and peers; Self-motivation, and the ability to work with minimal supervision; Ability to think strategically. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in higher education; Experience with Banner Finance.
