A D.C. Law Firm is seeking an experienced Senior Staff Accountant with proficiency in report writing using SurePoint /LMS to support our growing mid-sized Firm's accounting team. This person directs the maintenance of books of accounts, the accumulation of costs or comparable data, preparation of standard reports and statements and similar work. The successful candidate must possess a strong working knowledge of accounting policies and practices. Skills required include proficiency in organization, critical thinking, attention to detail, sound accounting judgement, and exemplary communications. Must work reliably independently as well as part of a team. Position is exempt, regular, and full-time with compensation based on education, years of relevant experience and the marketplace. Position is a 40-hour workweek, Monday-Friday working on-site from 8:30am-5:30pm. The firm offers a comprehensive benefits package, plus 12-paid Federal holidays and bonus potential. The role is hybrid (minimum 2-days on-site after 90 days, 3-days 1st 90 days). CANDIDATES MUST HAVE 2-3 YEARS OF SUREPOINT EXPERIENCE AND A BS DEGREE IN ACCOUNTING OR FINANCE. Status: Direct Hire Salary: Up to $100K DOE LOCAL CANDIDATES ONLY Duties and Responsibilities: Prepares, and produces monthly and ad hoc financial reports utilizing SurePoint - LMS as directed by Firm management with proficiency and minimal oversight. Maintains general ledger and examines accounting documentation to verify accuracy of computations and uniform application of policies, procedures, and acceptable accounting standards. Analyzes and presents financial reporting results competently, timely and accurately routinely. Assists in maintaining, analyzing, and updating general ledger entries. Assists in posting transactions for general ledger and for client billing. Reconciles monthly bank statements timely. Performs investigations and resolves issues related to reconciliations, general bookkeeping, financial analysis, accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, payroll and/or general ledger, and assistance on surveys, audits, and taxes as may be requested. Assists with maintaining records of accounts payable and accounts receivables as may be needed. Assists in preparation of month-end and year-end closings. Prepares, files, and resolves issues related to state registrations for business transactions. Coordinates with HR/Payroll on state unemployment and related taxation requirements, such as state workers compensation if needed. Assists the Controller, Accounting Manager and Executive Director on various survey and audit deliverable requirements and on various quarterly and year-end reporting. Collaborates with the Controller, Accounting Manager and Executive Director on best practices for law firm accounting. Utilizes information and summarizes financial reports to better understand the firm's financial position and provide meaningful data to firm management. Other duties, tasks and projects as may be assigned. Job Requirements: Proven experience as a Staff Accountant professional who has the desire and ability to grow and develop professionally at a mission-based law firm. Strong organizational and communication skills. Solid report writing experience using SurePoint LMS and versatility to perform efficiently general ledger functions and month- end/year-end close processes. Microsoft Office Suite experience with advanced MS Excel skills including Charts, VLOOKUPs and pivot tables. Ability to organize work, articulate thought processes with clarity, establish priorities and maintain good interpersonal relations and communications with all levels of Firm management, stakeholders and support staff as may be required. Position requires an individual with a cooperative demeanor who works efficiently and well within a team. BS Degree in Accounting or Finance. Additional relevant certifications are a plus. Must have 3-5 years' progressive accounting responsibility working in a professional services firm. A minimum of 2 years report writing experience utilizing SurePoint LMS is required. Experience working as a Staff Accountant in a medium to large law firm (50 lawyers) is required. Must demonstrate working knowledge of developmental math and fundamental accounting principles and related processes. Working knowledge of payroll principals, taxation and processes is preferred. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat. Experience using iManage or similar document management system and a CRM is a plus.
