XenoSTART, the preclinical division of START is a translational research organization focused on creating relevant preclinical cancer models. Our xenograft models represent each cancer type and disease stage and are established from patients at our domestic and international cancer centers. The XenoSTART Patient-Derived Xenograft (XPDX) platform includes over 2,500 models annotated with each donor patient’s cancer treatment and outcome data and characterized using IHC, DNA/RNA sequencing, and relevant in vivo drug efficacy.

​Our XPDX models are clinically annotated and include patient treatment history and outcome and are characterized through genomic profiling, histologic analysis, and in vivo drug sensitivity to relevant standards of care. These models may be utilized in the following manner:
  • In vivo PK/PD and efficacy studies
  • In vivo efficacy panel screens (indication or target focused)
  • In licensing of models for internal studies
  • Custom model development
  • Orthotopic and radiotherapy studies
  • Ex vivo and organoid studies
We are hiring a Bioinformatics Scientist to perform data analysis and integration across various domains (high-throughput transcriptomic and genomic data),and applies best-in-class algorithms or develops new algorithms that directly address the motivating biological and clinical questions. This position will also effectively present complex results in a clear and concise manner that is accessible to a diverse audience including physicians, scientists, and lay staff.

This is a remote role. The annual base salary for this role is $115,000 - $135,000. However, base pay may vary depending on multiple individualized factors including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Develop bioinformatics data processing tools and workflows to analyze omics data to support sponsors and internal clients.
  • Develop and run secondary analysis pipelines for DNA and RNA-Seq in AWS for human xenograft samples.
  • Organize sequence data files and results in a manner consistent with best practices. Work with web developers to facilitate transfer of data to the XenoSTART catalogue.
  • Organize, facilitate and document transfer of requested data to sponsors, including NGS files and analysis results.
  • Analyze and annotate human xenograft samples for driver genes, pathogenic variants, and cohort characteristics.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
  • MS degree or equivalent Computational/Informatics experience with 5+ years of applied experience in Pharma/Biotech or academic setting focused on oncology.
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • PhD degree or equivalent Computational/Informatics experience with 3+ years of applied experience in Pharma/Biotech or academic setting focused on oncology.
  • Hands-on experience in processing and analyzing NGS data (DNA & RNA-Seq) using common bioinformatics pipelines and with AWS.
  • Ability to collaborate and apply leading algorithms from academic and industry, creative and practical use of systems biology methods in oncology-based gene/target discovery, interpretation of cellular processes, and biomarker discovery.
  • Knowledge of genetics, immunology, tumor immunology and / or tumor biology is a plus.
  • Proficient in data visualization and communication with a multi-disciplinary team.
