Job Description The Data Science Analyst I collaborates with the principal investigator to develop sophisticated analytics that contribute to scientific results and conclusions. This individual demonstrates sound understanding of the healthcare domain, warehoused healthcare claims, and assessment data. Essential Duties Qualifications BA or BS degree minimum, in a relevant field of study; Masters degree preferred. 2 years minimum data science expertise, preferably in healthcare or academia, with experience in machine learning, and ideally, natural language processing Non-Bargaining Unit, 851 - Geriatrics and Palliative Care - ISM, Icahn School of Medicine Responsibilities Manages longitudinal claims data, including Medicare Carrier file and medication (Part D) data, as well as Minimum Data Set (MDS) for Nursing Homes and Swing Bed Providers, and other associated datasets according to the requirements of the data use agreement and institutional policy a. Develops database structure with appropriate data documentation, describing the content of analytic files, their locations, etc. b. Converts analytic files to appropriate file types to facilitate statistical analysis c. Creates derived variables needed to answer research questions d. Orients new study team members to database structure e. Develops and securely transfers queries needed to facilitate secondary projects with appropriate regulatory approvals f. Independently ensures that all analytic output conforms to cell size requirements of data use agreement g. Upon closure of the project, facilitates data destruction in a manner compliant with the data use agreement, study protocol and institutional policies and procedures Develops machine learning applications for prediction, clustering, and natural language processing. Takes a proactive role as analyst for study team members; understands their needs and translates them into reporting and analytic solutions Effectively communicates with study team members and ensures all requests are properly triaged, recorded and tracked. Ensures data integrity, high-quality query design, and reporting formats with meaningful analytic output Develops and maintains project work plans, including critical tasks, milestones, timelines, interdependencies and contingencies. Tracks and reports progress. Keeps stakeholders apprised of project status and implications for completion. Prepares clear, well-organized project-specific documentation, including, at a minimum, analytic methods used, key decision points and caveats, with sufficient detail to support comprehension and replication Provides technical assistance to others in the department using Medicare claims data, Medicare Part D data and MDS data May participate in the development of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed academic journals Other duties as assigned. The salary range for the role is $72473 - $109200 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
