Position Title: Events Security Officer

Accountability: Events Security Officer reports to the Director of Events & Guest Experience

Job Classification: part-time, hourly, non-exempt

About: Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden inspires a love of nature and its beauty through unforgettable outdoor experiences. The nearly 400 acres of Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden provides visitors with a chance to reconnect with nature in all seasons. The property welcomes guests to spectacular gardens, a conservatory dedicated to the display of tropical plants and orchids, sparkling fountains, nearly 6 miles of trails and a dog park.

The Events Security Officer is responsible for the security of the grounds and guests of the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden under the supervision of the Director of Events & Guest Experience. The Events Security Officer requires superb discipline and keen attention to detail while working events, ensuring safety and security protocols are met. An ideal candidate will be detailed oriented, personable, and eager to serve our guests.

Responsibilities:

• Understands the importance of each guest to the Garden and drives excellence to ensure an optimal experience in every way.
• Consistently maintains a safe and secure environment by foot patrolling and monitoring premises and personnel.
• Accurately and timely provides detailed written reports to management on daily activities, building activity, and any incidents that may occur.
• Serves as a first responder to all significant occurrences with speed and accuracy.
• Conducts timely facility checks, ensuring safe and secure facilities and grounds.
• Actively responds to customer needs, seeking resolutions and satisfaction.
• Serves as the final checkpoint to secure all exits, doors and windows after end of operations, setting alarms and closing gates upon exit.
• Exemplifies the Garden Mission Statement and supports staff, departments and leadership in pursuing and achieving goals.
• Performs any other duties needed to help drive to our vision, fulfill our mission, and abide by our values.

Requirements:

• Exhibits a passion for the mission of Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden.
• Successfully pass a standard background review.
• Able to work nights, weekends, and some national holidays.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work outside for long periods of time in all weather conditions.

• Must be able to perform physical requirements of programs at the most rigorous level.
• o May experience exposure to periods of sun, rain, and cold temperatures as well as potentially walking on uneven terrain that may contain trip hazards.
• o Must be able to hear distress noises and hear and see distress signals in a variety of environments, keeping safety in mind at all times.
• o Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• o Regular walking, lifting, twisting, crawling, pushing and pulling, grasping
• o Frequent sitting, standing, squatting, kneeling
• o The role may require working in varying environments, including outdoor and indoor settings, and may involve exposure to hazardous materials or conditions.

Experience & Education:

• Minimum of a high school diploma, associate’s degree preferred
• Minimum of 1 year experience serving in a security officer capacity.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a diverse audience.
• Ability to work in a team yet also independently.
