Position Summary
The Phlebotomist is dedicated to providing high-quality patient care by preparing specimens for laboratory testing and performing screening standards. This role is responsible for drawing blood samples with precision and professionalism while fostering an environment of trust and calm for each patient.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, record maintenance data, handle decontamination processes, and update patient information.
  • Greet patients courteously and ensure a respectful, positive experience.
  • Collect specimens following established procedures, providing clear, courteous explanations for blood draws and other specimen collections (e.g., urine or fecal).
  • Reduce patient anxiety by creating a calm environment before, during, and after specimen collection.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with straight and butterfly needles.
  • Accurately follow physicians' orders and lab requisitions.
  • Match lab requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as necessary.
  • Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
  • Package and prepare specimens for transport, following temperature and labeling requirements to maintain sample integrity.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department training sessions.
  • Respond to patient inquiries, answer calls, and provide lab results as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Phlebotomy certification as required by the state (required in CA, LA, NV, and WA).
Experience and Required Skills
  • Minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy experience in a lab or hospital setting, with 1-2 years preferred.
  • Reliable transportation with at least 4 years of licensed driving experience and a valid state-issued driver's license.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness to travel throughout assigned geography, up to 100% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong patient interaction skills, both in person and over the phone.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
