Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Accounting Manager to lead our finance team and oversee all aspects of financial operations, including grant accounting. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of GAAP, nonprofit accounting, and grant compliance.
Responsibilities:
Financial Management
- Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger numerous clients.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Manage the budgeting and forecasting process.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations and standards.
Grant Accounting:
- Manage the full grant lifecycle, from pre-award to post-award.
- Develop and implement robust grant accounting policies and procedures.
- Monitor grant budgets and ensure compliance with grant terms and conditions.
- Prepare accurate and timely grant reports.
- Collaborate with program staff to track grant expenses and revenue.
Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals.
- Assist in Recruit, hire, and train accounting staff.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
System Implementation and Improvement:
- Implement and maintain accounting software systems.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and controls.
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA certification preferred
- 5+ years of experience in accounting and finance, including grant accounting
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles
- Experience with grant management software (e.g., Salesforce, Workday)
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in general ledger accounting with a strong understanding of reconciliation processes.
- Strong mentoring skills to develop team capabilities effectively.
- Ability to interpret complex financial reports accurately and communicate findings clearly.
- Familiarity with regulatory reporting standards applicable to the industry.
- Solid understanding of governmental accounting principles when relevant to projects or contracts.
- Proficient in QuickBooks or similar accounting software for efficient financial management.

ABC Accounting and Bookkeeping Services is a small accounting and bookkeeping firm providing full accounting and bookkeeping services to small to medium size businesses.
You will work with the firm’s Senior Accountants who provide accounting services to our clients located across the U.S. Our Bookkeeper/Accountant team members work in hybrid positions, both on-site as well as remotely. Our Bookkeeper/Accountant performs most of the transactional accounting work for our clients, to include processing Accounts Payable and Payroll, posting bank and credit card activity and reconciling those accounts in QuickBooks, creating invoices for clients, and other tasks that support the work of our Senior Accountants who manage our accounting client engagements.
The Bookkeeper/Accountant will be assigned a portfolio of clients with whom they will work.
Required On-Site Work Hours
Beyond the initial training, approximately 25% -35% of the time our Accountants are required to be on-site, which typically equates to two days per week during regular business hours (typically 8 am-5 pm). The remaining hours can be performed remotely. It is expected that our staff members maintain a quiet, distraction-free workspace to enable professional phone communication.
