The Lease Accounting Manager is responsible for the accounting of all lease transactions for the organization. This role partners with the real estate to support the organization's campus growth plans and maintains essential internal controls for compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley(SOX). They review lease agreements, calculate lease payments, maintain lease records, prepare financial statements and provide reports on lease portfolio.

Principal Accountabilities & Deliverables
Lease Accounting and Administration- Oversee and perform lease accounting processes
- Update and maintain lease administration and accounting systems to ensure lease information is timely and accurate
- Lead month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes for leases
- Prepare journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepare and review monthly variance analysis explanations and communicate analysis with appropriate team members
- Serve as point of contact for all lease related inquiries
- Coordinate with the divisional real estate teams
Compliance and Controls
- Perform contract review and accounting for new or modified leases in accordance with ASC 842
- Manage and implement internal controls
- Support periodic audits (both internal and external)
- Research and resolve discrepancies, concerns and issues with journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
- Use continuous improvement methodologies to identify areas of inefficiencies, develop, and then implement process improvement
- Draft, maintain, and implement policies, procedures and related collateral
Qualifications
Education / Experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field and five (5) years of experience in general accounting (required)
- Lease ASC842 compliance experience (required)
- Experience with Costar lease accounting system, or equivalent (preferred)
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and SOX (preferred)
Skills
- Strong computer skills, prior experience with general ledger accounting systems and knowledge of personal computer software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PeopleSoft

Analytical skills required to identify and resolve problems effectively
Analyze lease agreements, assess their financial impact, and resolve complex lease accounting issues

Drive compliance with leasing regulations, tax implications, and internal controls
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with diverse personalities and clearly explain lease accounting concepts to non-financial stakeholders and collaborate with other departments (such as legal and procurement)
- Skilled in aligning lease management practices with broader financial and organizational goals
- Ability to influence without authority in a matrixed environment
Project and Data Management:
- Oversee lease-related projects, such as the implementation of new lease accounting standards or software systems
- Manage large volumes of lease data, ensuring accuracy and performing trend analysis to support decision-making
