Position Type: In-Person Job Type: Full-TimeAnnual Salary: $150,000 – $190,000 (commensurate with experience)

The RMW Accounting division is seeking an experienced and motivated Tax Director to join our team on a full-time basis at our McKinleyville, CA office. With a reputation for integrity and excellence, we serve a diverse client base, offering a range of tax, payroll, accounting, and consulting services.
Overview:
The Tax Director will oversee all tax-related activities for our diverse CPA firm, ensuring compliance, enhancing tax strategies, and providing top-tier service to our clients. This role demands a high level of expertise in complex tax issues, exceptional leadership abilities, and a client-focused approach.
Key Responsibilities:
Tax Strategy and Planning
- Develop and implement advanced tax strategies for a diverse portfolio of clients, focusing on the more complex tax issues.
- Advise clients on tax planning opportunities, including tax-efficient structuring and compliance.
- Analyze and interpret multi-state tax regulations and provide strategic guidance to optimize clients’ tax positions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, serving as the primary point of contact for tax-related matters.
- Understand clients’ business operations and tailor tax solutions to meet their specific needs.
- Provide high-quality, timely advice and support to clients on complex tax issues.
- Oversee the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Manage and coordinate multi-state tax compliance and reporting activities, including sales and use tax, income tax, and property tax.
- Stay abreast of changes in tax laws and regulations, ensuring that clients’ tax positions are updated accordingly.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of tax professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Oversee the recruitment, training, and performance evaluation of tax staff.
- Implement best practices and efficient processes within the tax department.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities to expand the firm’s tax practice.
- Develop and present proposals to prospective clients, showcasing the firm’s expertise and capabilities.
- Contribute to marketing efforts and industry networking to enhance the firm’s presence and reputation.
- Work closely with attest, accounting, consulting, and advisory teams to provide integrated services and holistic solutions to clients.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless delivery of services and adherence to firm standards.
Qualifications:
- CPA certification required
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in tax advisory and compliance, with significant experience in complex tax issues preferred.
- Proven experience in a leadership role, managing a team of tax professionals within a CPA firm.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws, including multi-state tax regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex tax situations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with clients and internal teams.
- Proficiency in tax software and accounting systems.
- Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing tax issues.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- High level of integrity and professionalism, with a commitment to ethical practices and client confidentiality.
