Distinguishing Characteristics
Accounting Technicians are responsible for performing highly responsible processing, reconciliation, verification, administration and reporting duties in one or more of the following specialized accounting support areas: cash receipts, revenue distribution, processing of claims, trust funds, non-sufficient fund checks and bail/bond and refund processing. Incumbents in this class are expected to perform these functions in an accurate, timely manner in accordance with legal requirements and sound financial management principles and practices.

Accounting Technician I is the journey level class in the series. Working under general supervision, incumbents perform routine to moderately difficult tasks associated with the receipt and processing of accounting and financial data. Incumbents typically perform limited interpretation of standard regulations and procedures and research and resolve routine errors/problems without assistance, referring difficult problems to the supervisor.

Accounting Technician II is a more advanced class in the series. Incumbents are typically required to possess and regularly apply broader knowledge and perform a wide variety of difficult and responsible financial/accounting duties which require extensive interpretation and application of policies, procedures and regulations. Incumbents are expected to have a thorough understanding of the interrelationships of internal and external record keeping systems.

Accounting Technician series is distinguished from the Accountant series in that employees in the Accountant series perform more difficult functions, including revenue distribution and reporting responsibilities that require more advanced technical accounting skills and knowledge and command of a wider array of laws, statutes and codes and Court policies and procedures.

Accounting Technician series is also distinguished from the Accountant class series in that incumbents in the latter classes are expected to perform a full range of professional accounting responsibilities.

Educational/Bilingual Incentive
Incumbents may be eligible to receive an educational incentive of either 2.5%, for an associate's degree, 3.5%, for a bachelor's degree, or 5% for a master's degree that is not required to work in the classification.
