Job Title: Accounting Assistant – Part-time

Job Description: The Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington (POB) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the improvement and preservation of sight by providing services, education, advocacy, and innovation. POB programs address vision health equity in the D.C. Metropolitan community. The Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington (POB) Seeking a highly motivated part-time Accounting Assistant to support our accounting team with the day-to-day tasks of accounting. This position requires a high level of integrity and discretion in handing confidential information.

Job Location: Capitol Hill, 5-minute walk from Union Station, Hybrid Remote

Work schedule: 20 hours per week

Hourly rate range: $28 - $30 per hour

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to the accounting department.
  • Record transaction using accounting software, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Process and reconcile A/P invoices and ensure approved invoices are paid.
  • Process credit card transactions.
  • Process incoming checks, ACH credits.
  • Reconcile bank statements and credit card statements.
  • Assist with medical billing
  • Maintain assigned general ledger accounts
  • Maintain a computer-based filing system
  • Serve as backup for payroll processing
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds
  • All other duties and projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • US Citizen
  • High school diploma or higher. Bachelor’s degree a plus
  • 4 or more years of experience
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • GAAP
  • Ability to perform data entry, create and maintain spreadsheets

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and Google Suite
  • QuickBooks Online
  • ADP Workforce Now
  • Proficiency in Excel. Must have the capacity to use Excel's functions, features, and formulas to organize, analyze, and adjust data
