Squirrel Hill Health Center (SHHC), a dynamic and growing Federally Qualified Health Center, is hiring a full time Dental Assistant in our Squirrel Hill location.

SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of a Dentist in a clinical setting, assists the Dentist in providing dental treatment. Clinical performance is overseen by Dentist; basic job performance, including but not limited to schedule, workplace compliance and behavior, overseen by Dental Assistant Lead EFDA and Director of Operations. 

Essential Job Functions:
  • Prepares each operatory and patient for treatment.
  • Takes and prepares radiographs using conventional or digital technology.
  • Provides active chair side assistance to the Dentist and anticipates the provider’s needs.
  • At the conclusion of patient care, assists the patient, clears the work site and prepares for the next patient.
  • Monitors the flow of laboratory cases.
  • Monitors and records sterilization cycles.
  • Maintains and inventories supplies.
  • Helps to manage patient flow in clinic.
  • Follows proper infection control protocols for the practice.
  • If fluent in a language other than English, the Dental Assistant shall also serve as an interpreter for patients speaking that language. Interpretation services may include, but not be limited to:
    • Being present to serve as translator during dental appointments.
    • Conveying information to patient by telephone.
    • Translating for other SHHC staff as needed, and/or assisting patient in completing SHHC required paperwork. 
    • These duties shall be delegated at the discretion of the supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Licensure Requirements:
  • Certification in dental assisting from an accredited school, or experience as a Dental Assistant.
  • X-ray Certification required.
  • Experience with electronic health records helpful.
  • CPR certified. or the willingness to obtain certification.
  • EFDA helpful, but not required.
  • New grads welcome to apply.
  • Must be coachable and a team player.
  • Must be flexible and open to change as we grow.
  • Strong desire to help underserved, refugee, and immigrant populations and use interpretation services.
  • Proficiency in a foreign language is a plus.
  • All CDC recommended vaccinations, including annual Covid and Flu, required.
