Job Description
General Statement of Duties
Reporting to the site's Maintenance Foreman or Manager of Maintenance, the Janitor will perform various unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the janitorial area. The individual must possess physical strength and be able to lift and carry. The person may be assigned to individual or group routine tasks and will rotate assignments as needed.
Key Duties/Essential Job Functions
- Groundskeeping, including sweeping and cleaning sites.
- Clean/Service all offices, stairs, halls, shops, and lavatories, including common areas, community halls, and other community facilities.
- Move trash cans for collection and return them to individual apartments or building cellars.
- Clean out all vacant units and debris from the site.
- Clean and maintain stairwells and hallways.
- Assist with all evictions.
- Mow lawns and trim all hedges/shrubs.
- On 24-hour call for snow removal.
- Wash windows and walls, mop floors, blinds, and wax floors.
- Replenish supplies in a maintenance workshop and assist in keeping the shop clean.
- Carry refrigerators, ranges, and cabinets in/out of apartments.
- Assist with loading and unloading vehicles at an assigned site or designated area.
- Clean debris from roofs and clean catch basins.
- Perform minor maintenance skills assignments, including replacing light bulbs and fixtures internally/externally.
- Ability to operate company motor vehicles such as trucks, sweepers, snow blowers, and grass cutters.
- Complete work on all work orders and deliver copies of completed and signed work orders to the foreman for reports, control, and filing purposes.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Education
Must have a high school diploma or GED--knowledge of trades relating to maintenance.
- Ability to perform semi-skilled tasks without direct supervision.
- Ability to speak, read, and write English.
- Understand and follow instructions independently.
- Ability to perform manual tasks requiring physical strength and endurance.
- Ability to fill out work order forms independently.
- An understanding of the tools required to perform the job responsibilities and the ability to use them correctly.
- Possesses a valid CT driver's license.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. without assistance, walk throughout the site, go up/downstairs, shovel snow, work in cold or hot weather conditions, answer incoming/outgoing calls via work-issued cell, attend meetings/training and be at PCC sites unaccompanied
