Kauai Coffee is now hiring Equipment Operators to support our Weed Control and Pest Control teams. This is a full time benefits eligible position with a starting pay of $18.53 p/hr + a $2,000 Sign on Bonus ($1,000 after 90 days and $1,000 at six months)

The Equipment Operator at Kauai Coffee is responsible for various tasks including the operation of tractors with various attachments for completing tasks related to agricultural construction, road maintenance, orchard pruning, and field preparation.

Examples of work performed in this role:

    1. Checks lubricants, water, fuel, and general working conditions of tractor and attachments; reports any malfunctions to immediate supervisor.
    2. Operates tractor with backhoe attachment digging ditches or trenches. Cleans out old ditches removing silt, rocks, debris, etc. Excavates irrigation mainlines, valve stations, submains, and risers for repair crews.
    3. Operates tractor using front-end loading attachment to load excavated material into trucks, leveling off areas where material has been deposited, fills trenches after culverts or pipes have been installed.
    4. Operates pruning machines in orchard pruning operation.
    5. Clears trees, stumps, grasses, etc. in fields in preparation for planting; pushes soil and other material doing rough leveling and filling; plows area with ripper, pulls disc harrows to prepare soil for planting.
    6. Moves earth, trees, tree stumps, rocks, or other debris. Loads sand, gravel, and dirt as directed.
    7. Performs leveling with blade by grading, filling, and clearing.
    8. Services and makes minor repairs on tractors and allied equipment such as replaces broken parts on attachments, tightens bolts, changes cables, greasing, etc. Assists in making major repairs on tractor or allied equipment. Reports need of repairs to supervisor.
    9. Observes standard safety regulations and Federal worker protection standards (WPS).
    10. Operates coffee harvesters
    11. Sets and adjusts coffee harvesters
    12. Is responsible for correct operation, servicing and repairs of coffee harvester assigned.
    13. Uses extreme caution when operating equipment to prevent accidents.
    14. Operates trucks with semi-dump trailer hauling coffee to plant.
    15. Operates water truck and washes equipment as directed.
    16. Operates service truck as directed.
    17. Checks truck and trailer prior to starting for proper operating condition such as air pressure in tires, air brakes, oil pressure, temperature gauges, etc. cargo nets, lights, etc.
    18. Drives truck and trailer under variable conditions on highways, plantation roads, and in fields, hauling coffee from harvest field to coffee plant.
    19. Positions truck at loading and unloading areas to facilitate loading and unloading.
    20. Cleans and services truck and trailer, makes minor repairs and adjustments, changes tires as necessary to prevent undue wear or damage, reports mechanical defects or malfunctioning of equipment requiring repair by shop trades workers.
    21. Assists coffee harvester, operates as directed to clean or clear.
    22. Assists in moving coffee harvesting equipment as needed.
    23. Prepares production report as required.
    24. Operates a wheeled, front-end loader, as necessary, to load trailers or receive coffee from harvesters.
    25. Operates wheel loaders to receive picked coffee from harvesters and unload into trucks or trailers.
    26. Assists coffee harvester operators as directed. Sets up harvester operators in blocks being harvested after receiving instructions from shift supervisor.
    27. Provides communication link between shift supervisor, coffee harvester operators, and mechanics.
    28. Uses extreme caution when operating equipment to prevent accidents and observes company safety standards.
    29. Pre-checks and maintains equipment in good operating condition and reports mechanical problems to supervisor. May assist mechanics with minor repairs.
    30. Does other related work as required or directed by supervisor.
    31. May be assigned other duties as needed.

Qualifications/Skills/ Knowledge Requirements:

  • Some previous farming and tractor operation experience is helpful.
