GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

This safety sensitive position (SS) purpose is to transport materials to job sites and assists with street maintenance duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Operates a dump truck to haul hot asphalt, sand, gravel, rock, and supplies. This duty is performed daily.

2. Operates a front-end loader to load materials and equipment. This duty is performed daily.

3. Operates a backhoe. This duty is performed daily.

4. Inspects vehicle on a daily basis to assure that proper levels of air pressure, gasoline, oil, and other fluids are maintained; reports any mechanical or electrical defects; washes, cleans, and fuels truck. This duty is performed daily.

5. Assists with drainage pipe installation. This duty is performed as needed.

6. Flags traffic around work areas. This duty is performed as needed.

7. Cut trees from rights-of-way with a chain saw and perform other laboring duties as necessary. This duty is performed as needed.

8. Operating a city vehicle is required for the essential functions.

9. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Mental alertness and adaptability to office and field area work routines. Equivalent to four years high school or GED, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or others, plus 0 to 6 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, notes, letters and memos; Ability to write simple correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers. Ability to perform these mathematical skills using money and other forms of measurement.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Ability to use common sense understanding in order to carry out simple multi-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with limited variables.
